How The Hell Do Cars Survive?!

I went out for a drive tonight and the roads here are trashed...atleast 75% of them, from the plows and lack of maintance..essentially like driving over frozen rows of corn..and i'm watching little economy cars taking these roads at 40 mph and the suspension just slamming the ground let alone the fuel tank..hell i slowed down in some parts because it was just gut wrenching with the bumps and dips...how do cars survive? i know now how tie rod companys are kept in business
