im not sure if i want to do vortec heads and vortec manifold or put a cam in.I know the heads on a 1990 gmc sierra 350 are really poor for performance so is the tbi but im not getting into swaping that out.I was just wondering if i should do a cam swap or the vortec package?

if you lived closer id sell ya my old engine. crank is ****ed. but heads are in great condition and same with the cam. came outta my 98 gm. i run a crate engine now

yea i think i made a discussion.im going with the holly pro injection, port the heads(of course port match the gaskets and mani)im not doing the cam.instead i figured that good headers would be good for an easy 10hp.so ill be pretty good i figure that i gain an easy 25hp with these mods.money is tight considering i have a cr250 im planning on doing a esr 330 big bore on that.you have a long block or small block?

Your options are limited with that truck but in all honesty, going back to a carb would be your cheapest option

for reliable horsepower. The TBI heads are junk and even with porting and custom burned chips, cams, headers,

etc they still can't pull a fat boar off a piss pot. Sorry, just speaking from self learned, first hand knowledge.

Now i know this isnt a race truck im not looking to pull anything.i cut off the hitch for a reason. Not every bodys first truck can be a diamond piece like yours. But i tell you right now for having 275,000 miles on the motor i cant bitch at all.carb is not an option.and the stock 3.42's aren't helping anything.if you consider this a weak truck you must be on your way to the hospital.

To each their own. I've owned the same truck and modded the same truck. If you don't want the voice of reason

and experiance you're good to go then. Have fun.

vortec heads will help. Put a cold air on in it. Ive noticed lots with shorty headers. I run edelbrock headers, yet im not a fan of them. Its just my uncle owns a diesel performance shop and i got them for dirt cheap and i broke the stock manifolds.

Throw some new exhaust on your truck if you haven't yet. im a fan of 3" true dueled and having a magnaflow muffler. They sound awesome on those trucks. I just run sweet talkers just cause the budget is a lil tight with the kid and i need to make my truck not so loud..

thats all you can do without taking your engine apart. I dont know whats out there for programmers on a ob1 truck

Got any pics of your cr? i had a brand new yz 250 and i got it all set up for the track (alot of money and time went into that bike) and once i got everything perfect it got stolen. Insurance wouldnt do shit for me. took them 3 months and they only gave me $5000. so what ever i owed came out of my own pocket. but i bought a brand new yz 450. only got about 5 hours on it.

Vortec heads will not work with the factory TBI intake. Completely different bolt pattern and intake surface angles.

3" "true" dual exhaust, is overkill for anything making less than 500 hp with 100% volumetric efficiency. 3" exhaust on my 416hp 406 small block lost me 11 hp peak and 8 hp overall. It was best with 2.5" exhaust with 40 series Flowmasters on it.

I ran long tubes on my 90, with the off road Y pipe. It did pick up a mpg or two but no feelable difference in power. That compounded with Michigan winters wiped them out in 3 years time.
