Remote Start.....shuts Off After 10 Minutes Or So....?

Ok, so i have just started really using my remote start to get truck heated up during the winter. Both times I started the truck to de-ice my windows and both times, by the time i went to leave the house and get into the truck it had turned off ( i know it deffinately did start, lol ). Is there an automatic shut off after the truck has been idling for a certain amount of time?

Even if there is a timed shut off......today was a bit odd to me. I remote started the truck like normal, 10-15 minutes later I went to get into the truck and it was completely off ( as I expected it to be, since it had done this once before ). I figured since this had happened once before, that the truck perhaps reached operating temp and shut off.......but when I got in and started it up.....the temp was only about half way up to operating temperature ( just under 1/4 of the way up the guage ) and i thought to myself that this cant be right.

Any ideas here?

According to my owners manual it shuts off after 10 minutes. You can however push the start button again before the 10 min is up and it will extend the time another 10 minutes. So if you have it running for 5 minutes, press the button again and the timer gets reset to 0 and it will run 10 more minutes. You can only do this once. BTW, the manual has a bunch of useful info in it.

Yes, you can remote start the vehicle and it will stay on for 10 minutes and then shut off.

you can then restart the vehicle with the remote start and it will stay on for another 10 minutes but after that, you physically have to stick the key in the ignition as the remote start will not engage a third time (unless the key is cycled in the ignition). design of GM

Are you sure that's correct? If I have my truck running and push the start button again while the truck is going it will shut off.

Those guys are correct. My 07 gmt-900 does the same.

Possibly you are re-pressing the auto-start button more than once in

the first 10 minute time period?

I let mine run for the first ten, then it shuts off, I then restart it for the

next 10 minute time period.

I do wonder IF you re-press the auto start button before the first 10

minute run period is up do you lose the minutes that are left on the

initial start period and then the second run period starts ?????????

I will have to time mine to see..................

I think the sequence goes

lock button > start button (10 minutes)

if you hit the start button again it shuts off

if you hit lock > start again it give you another 10 minutes.

You are bang on the money....I never extend my time I wait until it shuts off then start it again or I just hit the start button while running to shut it off. I will have to try that next time. Thanks

You have to hit the lock again, then restart... and it will continue for another 10 minutes

We've had a cold snap recently and it seems that under 40º or so, both front seat heaters are heating away, plus the heater is working at full blast.

Friends, I thought I would never in this world use the Remote Start that came with my 2010 Silverado CC/SB LTZ. Dang, now I wouldn't have another new rig WITHOUT the Remote Start.

Hmmm, one really bad thing. My dear wifey of 47 years has a 2004 Tahoe LT that got moved out of the garage, so that I could park my new truck under cover. Guess who now wants a Remote Start on her rig????

And she's making noises like a brand new Tahoe LTZ or even a new GMC Yukon Denali ... with Remote Start, of course ... would be a really nifty Birthday gift.

Well, February 23rd is coming up quickly. Maybe, just maybe.

Anyway, I'm really enjoying the Remote Start on our new truck and the link to the heater and bun warmers is iceing on the cake.

I would assume that in the heat of summer that the air conditioning would be cooling the rig down when I remote start????

Thanks for a really wonderful and friendly GM Forum. You guys are great ... thanks for letting this old fart join in.

Yes, in the summer, it turns on the A/C and cooled seats (if equipped)
