  1. Interesting how they "blacked out" the bottom line of the grill. Before this was chrome like the other levels of the grill making it look mean!!!! I like the previous look. But there was a lot of on-line negative to that look. So seems they took action and tried to minimize the aggressiveness to it. Bummer.
  2. This one looks better than the current almost flat cover I use. This one's bed closing feature is much better than mine and others I've seen. The only negative I see, beyond those listed in this article, is that darn pull string release. That means you can't use it to store things without concern of theft. Those are so easy to open with a simple hook made from a clothes hanger it's not even funny. If they'd make a cover with a more secure latching mechanism, I'd toss my current one and get that ASAP. I'm almost ready to go back to the much taller Extang cover. While it's not flat, the latching mechanism is almost perfect for security. That and the Extang doesn't need a rail to hold it down, making it so much more simple.
  3. My turn offs so far of the 2019 Chevy are similar but... Unloaded suspension float on bumpy roads. I loved the "old" Chevy ride. Also a bit floaty unloaded but still felt very in control. 2007-2018 are a bit rough on otherwise smooth road. The white model driven here seemed also to have 18" wheels. 20" wheels are just stupid in a truck. Stupid. Interior is functional but has a drab design. I also loved the 2014+ interior. Sad to see them take that and make it more plain and boring. Limited availability for 6.2L. So few need a 6.2, but yeah, it does need to be an option in all models. Enough trim levels to make a customer dizzy. I don't mind dizzy. Especially when there is a choice. Does this point also make a contradiction to the above point? Too many options, but not enough? I dislike the grill, and the round wheel wells too. The old square wells gave the Chevy a standout look. Now it looks just like all the others in that aspect. Yuck. I may go GMC this time around. And, no, the square doesn't hurt aerodynamics. If you think it does then you probably don't understand how golf balls work either. And that grill just looks odd. Chevy has failed at the front end looks before, and once again they've messed it up. Looking forward to the 2021 redesign, if for the interior if nothing else.
  4. Heck, put the same dual turbo V6 they use in the Cadillacs in this. That'd be PLENTY of power for it's small size. 420HP and 460 twist.
  5. Looks too much like just any other SUV. Oh well. I was hoping it would copy the Colorado looks and build style closer. THAT would be an awesome looking SUV. They probably didn't do that because of the feature set. This one has way more features than does the Colorado line as of yet. So less need to re-engineer parts and design. Modern business as it is...
  6. That 2.7 torque curve makes me wonder if it's artificially limited, hanging on at just below 350 for so long...
  7. The numbers game always cracks me up. Especially with the public at large, who really doesn't understand physics that much. GM is known for being conservative in their ratings, for very good reasons. And, it shows with their trucks being the longest lasting on the road. Not to mention the most civilized in driving dynamics. Also, a lot of people seem to forget that the aftermarket business is not slowing down. If you really are that full of testosterone, and need more there is a way to get there, no matter what make or model of truck you own. Now, down to real discussion on what I feel we should expect. I'm still very impressed with the MPG from my 2015 5.3 L Chevy. My average from the truck I owned before, a 2011, is 3 MPG higher. That's amazing. If the new fuel management systems GM is putting in place gain another one or two, that's a gold mine in gas savings for me. I'm looking forward to it. The MPG wars do, I feel, have one negative. It seems to me that towing should be going up more for all major truck makers. It's moving up for sure, but doesn't quite seem to keep pace with the HP and Torque increases. That's likely due to the push for MPG, which is not bad. But just interesting to me to watch the progression of modern trucks.
  8. GM needs to figure out both the fully automatic and a manual version and offer them on ALL trucks they sell. It's as if they really don't want to sell trucks sometimes... I do wish they'd keep a normal handle on the automatic version too. That button just looks odd, and doesn't have a good feel on operation to me. Just like most SUVs that have fully automatic tails, also keep the manual handle. As far as the complaints about the tailgate upper part hitting something? Gotta wonder if these people can even drive. You know the truck can hit anything if it's not operated properly O.o
  9. Call me crazy, but I kind of miss the old 4 speed trans from years past. They did a torque converter trick that made them act like an 8 speed. Boy were they smooth as silk in most driving. Not nearly as nimble though.
  10. Got the truck to the dealership yesterday, took them only a short time to reprogram the ECM on the transfer case. It was found quickly in their recall info (they said recall but who knows...) Surprised this was not fixed before I got the truck a couple months ago, as the recall is several months more older... GRRR!!!
  11. I have a 2015 Silverado 4x4 LTZ with 3500 miles, and ran into this problem this weekend. I've not changed the transfer case selection at all in the past few weeks, staying in 2wd mode. But yesterday morning I started the truck, and immediately felt the binding while turning problem and within seconds saw the "Service 4x4" message. I've tried a few simple things to at least make it more drivable so I can get it to the dealership on Monday, but nothing has worked yet. I hope a slow crawl to the dealer won't do any more damage to it, they are only 4 miles away. I and other family members have put well over 1 million miles on various GM 4x4 trucks. This is the first time I've ever seen an issue with the 4x4 system.
  12. At idle, they'd actually have to burn more gas in V4 mode to overcome the negative inertia needed to keep the engine running. V4 mode actually works by using the momentum of the vehicle as it rolls to keep the engine moving as much as burning gas. I've got a 5.3 2015. Traded in a 2011 5.3 I'm amazed at how much more the V4 mode kicks in compared to my older truck. Much more. Even as I press the gas just a little bit, it still stays in V4. I'm also getting almost 3 MPG better in town than I did with the 2011 5.3... Also, in regard to the gas comments before I've always burned 89 octane or better in my 5.3s Even the 5.3 non V4 mode version I had before the 2011. These just run better on anything higher than 87 octane. At least with the E15 fuels, with pure gas it does fine on 87 octane. Oh, and to the doubters, yes, V4 does save gas. http://www.rangetechnology.com/pages/v4 If you want a "muscle truck" then you are obviously not interested in saving gas, so why even go there to argue against V4? You don't need it anyway.
  13. I've noticed that the new '14/'15 do not look quite as tilted forward as past models. I personally refuse to "level" a truck. There's good reason it's that way. But at least with the newer model, they've figure out how to not make it look that way so much.
  14. I'm looking into glueing the front corners too. Got a brand new hot glue gun, and haven't had anything to use it on yet... I do see a big deal in having to re-engineer a product to work as intended. Small leaks are OK, this is a major hole. I still say a cross member holding the cover tightly at the front with proper seals and hard strap buckle mounts (the buckles rattle like crazy between the bed and cab.) would be a 1000% improvement in this product. I hope they continue to improve, maybe on version 3 of this cover? I also thought about covering/blocking the release cable. Probably do exactly what you suggested with the metal bracket. Thanks.
  15. I just installed a Roll-X cover to my 2015 Silverado. The installation was very simple. My daughter and I did it in under and hour, and we didn't rush it at all. The cover is very good looking, and I love the rolling functionality of it. I've used only tri-fold hard covers before, but wanted to try something different this time. Glad I went this way. But the product is far from perfect, as I've found out. Plusses: - Very good looking, as it's very flush with the bed rail. - Still leaves enough room around the side for the hand hold hole (14/15 Silverado example) - Easy to operate - Sturdy construction, but probably not as sturdy as a tri-fold. I wouldn't put weight on it. - Very easy to install in < 1 hour Negatives. - I expect this cover to leak like crazy. The front corners of the bed are left very open. - Doesn't seem very tight on the bed, may move around. Time will tell on that one... - The closing method doesn't always grab correctly. You have to push down on parts of the cover to make it grab everything as you close it. - I don't feel this cover is very secure. More later on this... Lets go over the negatives a bit more. The corners of the cover, especially the front corners don't seem well engineered. I can easily see where water would seep in. With a little wind the corners of the rubber here could life leaving a gaping hole for water. They should have made the seal in the corner more robust, and probably even engineering a clamp to work in the corner. It basically could use a cross member here to help with the tie down and sealing of the cover. The cover just "floats" here (float's not the right word, but I can't quite explain it like I want to.) The install just seems a bit hokey, as you have to adjust a lot to get it to align just right forward and backwards on the bed. They should know the length perfectly and just make it fit. It there was a similar cross bar along the front edge with a solid seal, similar to the side bed bars used to hold down the cover, and have the cover attach to this front cross member I feel the cover would be 1000 times improved in stability, fit and water tightness. Last, I really don't see this cover as being highly secure. Seems to me you could easily slip a hanger under the cover at the tailgate and grab one of the release wires to undo the cover. I don't want to tear my cover up, so I've no tried this. But I can't see it being that hard to get into the bed with this cover locked. But, overall I still like the cover as it looks great and is easy to use. Next time I'll probably go back to the Extang Tri-Fold hard cover, as it was solid as a rock and extremely secure.
  16. 2015 Silverado 1500 4x4 LTZ. Forrest Green Metallic. Yep, it is green. Here's a short critique I posted earlier to a different thread... I just replaced my 2011 LT Z71 with a 2015 LTZ 4x4 with 5.3 and 3.42 rear, both crew cabs. I usually go for Summit White, but this time I opted for that new Dark Forrest Green Metallic special order color. It's really eye catching, and I get a lot of comments about it when I'm out. Here's some of my takes: I have the power pedals in the 2015, and did in my 2011. I have noticed right away that I can find a MUCH better driving position than I could in the 2011. I alwasy felt cramped in the 2011 even with the pedals extended all the way down. I also found the less tilt to the base of the seat is noticable, it's not bothered me too much yet. The stitching in the LTZ has a beaded stitch feature going down the side of my leg though, hopefully that won't be a problem either but I do feel it. But overall, it is better than the 2011. I've got cooled seats, which is a major plus to me. Couldn't stand the sweaty bum problem from the 2011 during the Summer months. I have the tilt and telescope stearing wheel, that is a great thing too. It will be very nice to get it just right after a hard day's work on remote jobs to make my drive home a little easier. I have the 5.3, and the same was in my old truck. There is a major difference to the exaust tone between the old and new. I think the old one being a Z71 was tuned a bit louder. I'm enjoying a lesser tone from the new one. If I were still young I'd probably like the 2011 tone better, but pushing 5 decades has softened my ears to nicers tones. The inside ride is as you said: Shockingly quiet. My daughter is thrilled that she can now carry a conversation from the rear seat without shouting, as well as hear us back there much better too. Not only do the new doors help with the quiet, but I think there are a lot more added padding around the truck to reduce road noise. There is a noticably bigger heat/noise padding between the engine and firewall. And, my LTZ has the padded wheel well liners, not sure if that's normal options for lower models too. I haven't gone under the truck yet to check out the bottom setup, but I bet I find noise reduction attempts there too. The truck is just amazingly quiet. I opted for the normal 4x4 this time over the Z71. Again, the age thing has me dislikeing the off-road ride, this 4x4 is very smooth and easy. This was probably the major factor in my decision to upgrade my 2011 to the newer model. The 2015 feels more pronounced and taller on the road, and it is taking me a bit to get used to the new view from what feels to be a higher positioned truck. Probably isn't taller by much if any but it feels like it is. I've had it out in some adverse weather (strong rain storms) and felt extremely confident in how the truck was handling the road during these windy and very wet times. No frozen stuff yet to try, but waiting almost eagerly for a test on that type of road condition. The truck just seems to be very planted to the road, and moves exactly as you'd expect when maneuvering. I especially love the new electric power steering! I've found the radio to be better, as far as audio quality. The old truck was a Bose equiped Nav unit, as is the new truck. The new one seems to have a lot more power to the speakers. I've always like the sound of Bose, but they usually strike me as rather quiet. The 2015 is not as quiet as past Bose models. I'm a bit of an audiophile and love loud music. I almost can't handle the highest volume setting of my new truck. I find the MyLink system to be fantastic. Though I do miss one feature. On the MyLink there is no "Bluetooth", and "Voice" command to talk directly to my iPhone. I used to take a lot of notes this way and set reminders that I'd think of while in travel plus I could craft specific answers to text messages after having Siri read them to me (Gotta keep both hands on the wheel...). Can't do that through the GM MyLink radio any more. This is bad, but at least if I can remember to plug my iPhone in, I can use the "hey Siri" feature of iOS 8 as a backup to that missed resource. Hopefully GM will update the radios to add that feature back in. The texting feature of MyLink does make up for some of the direct voice command missing problem but not completely. Pandora and regular music ability from the phone is very nice. Bluetooth music is nice, but not quite as featured as when you plug in to one of the USB ports that allow data too. You only get full Pandora functionality then, and a few other audio information features. The old radio's voice commands were very verbose and tedious at times. The new MyLink allows for me to choose between verbose or terse commands so I don't have to wait to get commands done. I feel it could be made even more terse, but the change is still very welcome. Very nice! I also love the maps, and their 3D buildings. I live in a medium sized city and was surprised and the number of 3D models buildings shown on the map in my town. But they do seem to miss a few older buildings that should have been 3D'd. One other small detail I found that I don't like is that they moved the power lock switch on the door handle. It's now much farther away from the handle so I can't lock the door as I open it with one hand by hitting the lock button with my thumb as I did on the old 2011 truck. Not sure why they changed this. Seems kind of stupid because I now have to let go of the handle or use two hands to exit and lock the truck. I think most folks will use the lock 100 times more than the kid door/window lock thing that now sits right up agains the handle, even parents. Usually you just lock the back, and hardly ever touch it. But you are constantly locking and unlocking doors. Not a biggie, but noticable to me. All other controls on the door are a move toward the better. Auto down on all windows, and auto up on the driver are a very nice change. I also love the new keyfobs, I used to break the old ones pretty easily. The newer ones have the metal around the edges that will make them much tougher to the adverse environment in my pockets. Over all, I feel that this is one of the best moves in a truck purchase I've ever made. I'm only sad that GM was not more giving on incentives during their "Truck Month" on 2015 models, but I guess that's to be expected. My dealership did a fantastic job anyway. So far only have a couple hundred miles on the OD, can't wait to put a LOT more on it.
  17. No vibration? In other words, the tires are good. I don't know why, at current prices, they don't just make the spray on bed liner standard on all pickups....

    See! It is green!
  20. Reading all of this (not really, but I did read a lot) reminds me of a 2000 Silverado I had once. Took me almost a year to get the dealership to replace tires on it. Shaked like the dickens at highway speeds. Turns out it had 3 out of round tires on it. 3!!!! Goodyears.... The first time they finally replaced, they did with Goodyears, and it still shook. Then I got firestones (off brand named versions) and it drove like a dream from then on.
  21. That's been Ford's trick over the past couple of decades. Deep discounts to make it the cheapest truck on the market. Without that, they'd not be #1. Lately though, Ford doesn't seem to be nearly as nice on price.
  22. I tried to get Duellers on one once. My 2000 Silverado had a vibration with some Goodyears, and the dealer put a set of Duellers on the truck to test. They rode perfectly and smooth, but the dealership would not honor the warranty with a different brand. Tried to replace when needed later on with Duellers, but everyone continued to tell me "they were not the best tire" from the dealership to a few tire guys. I wish I'd gone with my intuition now... I did end up with some nice Firestones (actually the off brand Firestone, much cheaper) on that truck, and got well over 50K out of them.
  23. Bet a lot it's the tires. I've had so many problems with tires on every Chevy truck I've purchased since 1994. I'm almost to where I'd want to buy new tires on a brand new truck when I get the next one.
