Going 285/60/18 and wanted to know if there is any reason for going 10 ply. I use my truck for work and drive A LOT and always have about 600 lbs in the bed.

10ply and E load range are the same rating. If you have an HD and tow/haul alot, I'd stay with the E load range like

what was installed on it from the factory.

Hmm well I don't know what the difference is because there are two different tires for the same size from nitto. one is extra load 10 ply and the other is E rated.

What model truck do you have ? That helps answer the question. ;)

Go with load range E. I went from load range C to E and didn't notice any ride difference. One thing I did notice tho was that it handled better. Probably from the added plies in the sidewall, meaning less flex.

From what I read when looking for tires the 10,8,6 ply labeling is no longer valid with modern LT tire hence them going to C, D, E etc. The extra load tire from nitto is a non LT tire that can handle more weight then other passenger car tires.

like stated above, the xl is just a passenger tire rated for higher loads. the 10 ply is the "E" rated. so those are your two choices. the "E" will last longer and ride a little stiffer and usually cost a little more. the p rated xl will be just fine for you assuming you are a half ton owner. 3/4 ton go with the E especially with a diesel motor
