New Tires

I was a t Sams club and found these at a awesome price.Has any one used these before.They are 153.00 at walmart and only 92.00 at Sams Club.

65 has nothing to do with the width... that's the sidewall height as a % of tire width. 245 is the width... in mm

The Fortera are quality tires though.

Nope, as has been posted it's a measure of sidewall height as a % of the width. If you do go with a 65 aspect ratio, change the tire width to 265 (265/65/17) to maintain the proper OD (height). BTW, I am running 265/65/17 on my truck.

Those came on my '85 when I bought it. They were good tires, but a little to "street" for me. If you do alot of highway miles, I think you will like them alot. Congrats on the purchase!

We have them on my wife's Subaru Tribeca and they have been a fantastic tire. I was considering putting a set on my truck but I was under the impression they were more of a light SUV tire?

All your half tons come stock with P series.Unless it is a HD.

I personally wouldn't put P rated tires on a truck, but that's just me.

True, and you should actually consider the load rating of your tire rather than just if it is LT or P series. My P-series tires are rated @ 2535lbs per tire. That is a combined weight rating of 10,140lbs. Subtract 6400lbs for the truck itself, and you end up with 3,740 left over. How often do you put that in the bed of a half ton truck? .............Exactly.

jtramsey will be fine with p-rated tires.

Not quite that simple, at first glance you are about 1700 pounds off. But you are correct in paying attention to the load carrying rating before looking at P or LT. But, you also get more plies (generally) with an LT tire as opposed to the standard P rated tire. It has been many years since I worked with tires professionally, but, Firestone used to have a P rated tire that was also a 6 ply tire. It was marketed as an XL tire. Was only available in the P235-75r-15. And to show even more age, it was in the "721" lineup. Used to sell a ton of those for the pickup truck guys that wanted a 6 ply tire with the 4 ply price and ride. Their original intent was the ambulance/hearse market.
