Check Your Rental

I work part time in the mornings for a rent-a-car company. The other day as I was leaving, the manager came to me looking for a razor blade. Apparently one of the cars we had inspected last week was going to the used car sales division....he wanted to scrape off the inspection sticker and use it on another car that had an expired inspection....I told him "you can't do that, it is sooo illegal"...bet he did it after I left. These guys never cease to amaze me with all the crap they pull

The mechanic that signed off on that sticker is in deep sh!t if the police ever find it.

I got a rental with bald tires from Hertz at Detroit airport last month. You'd think a major airport would actually inspect the cars, especially in winter. I called and ripped them a new one and demanded a new car be brought over to Ann Arbor where I was working that week. I also got a car with expired registration that I didn't notice until my last day with the car, also in Michigan. Maybe I just need to stay the hell away from Michigan.

We were cleaning a car when I noticed the tire was going flat....could hear it hissing....got out my portable 12v compressor to fill it while we cleaned it, this way it goes to the tire shop, then ready to rent....but the manager came out and said "hurry up, this car is going out"...I said "The tire is going flat, it needs to go to the shop"...he said "it's getting rented"....they rented it to an old lady who called 10 minutes later from the Mall saying "I'm so sorry, I got a flat with your car, can you send help"...they brought her another car and looked like heros

and you have to Remember Renter's Rule Number 1: It Ain't Mine. most rental Cars are Beaten to Complete S*%# when they get sold!

I've had some epic adventures in cars from rental agencies.

When I first took my current job I was 23, so most places charged an extra $25-$35 a day because of that. Granted my employer paid for it, but I felt it was my duty to make sure that they were not paying that fee in vain.

I received a rental car for work (delivered to work) and right before I took a 5 hr (or so) drive to Cleveland I noticed there was a huge oil puddle under the car. After an extra 1 hr in waiting for a new car they dropped it off. What a pain.

I've noticed damage on cars that they missed while checking them in, only to have them charge the damage to the next guy that rents that same car to cover thier arse.....I've told them about cars that had some front suspension issues, only to have them ignore me and rent it out regardless. I've given up on reporting things that are wrong with the cars, they really don't care. I've seen them put a staggering drunk in a car, guy reaked of booze and was holding onto things to keep his balance....couldn't even find his liscence in his wallet, just handed them the whole thing and let the rental agent find it. :driving:

I get rental cars for work all the times in different places.

I tend to drive anything I drive like I stole it, so rentals are no exception...but I did see something really bad last time I picked up a car. Our company rents from National, which lets folks with "status" pick their own car from the Emerald aisle. All that was left this night when I got in were two Dodge Grand Caravans. I got in one and it had three miles on it...so, I assume they had gotten a shipment of new cars. There was another one parked right next to the one I took that was also apparently new, because it still had the plastic taped over the wheels and tires. Another guy got in that one and drove it away right in front of me.

I've never seen something so obvious that a rental company could miss.

Otherwise, I haven't really had problems with my rental cars. I like being able to choose my own, though...a lot of times I've been able to snag Tahoes, Suburbans or Yukons. :driving:

I'd be surprised if they got it off in one piece but that terrible.

You must not of had one of the bad Pa. stickers from last year, the ones that would not stay on the windshield!! :fume: I swear,I don't know what kind of adhesive they used but they do not stay glued onto the windshield :smash:
