Discoloring Tailgate Bowtie

Recommended Posts

I have a 2010 Silverado thats been on the road for about 5 months. The tailgate bowtie is starting to discolor (the gold looks like it is turning black from the edges inward). I have seen this on a few other trucks around town but not all. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I thought I had seen a pic of this but could not find it.

Not sure what to do at this point (ie. debadge, paint the emblem or cover with black vinyl, or get a replacement)

Also is this warranty item?

Thanks

I'm new to this formu as of an hour ago. I found it Googling the tailgate bowtie. I've had my Sliverado for 9 months and have had the bowtie replaced twice. I was hoping that GM had a fix but by the sounds of things here I'll be getting my dealer to replace it for for as long as GM pays for it.

If your still within the 3yr/36000 miles, you still have a warranty, regardless if your the original owner or not. So it should be covered.

10 minutes with a blow dryer and a plastic pry tool and my tailgate looks much better without the overgrown bowtie. I found this much easier than using fishing line trying to saw through the mounting tape. Left no mounting tape or glue residue. Take your time.
