Air Deflector

The deflector looks better on black trucks.

Only because it blends in. It looks best out back by my wood pile collecting dust.

I just took this peice off my truck and it looks soooo much better! Thanks for this thread and everyone's input. All I did was take the bolt off on each side and then gently pry apart the plastic clips using a stubby flat head screw driver. Took me 10 minutes total! Thanks again!

i am still interested in the actual function of the air deflector and whether or not taking it off actually affects its intended purpose.

does anyone have any real world data about what this does?

The owner's manual talks about that piece of plastic. Creates more negative air pressure behind/below rad to improve cooling. If you haul most of the time (trailer in the summer), don't throw it away it may be helpful to put it back on. SF

Finally got warm enough here to get outside and get this thing off. Once I got the 2 screws off was a piece of cake. About 10 minutes.

If you take it off, you lose about 8 mpg

I would love to know where you're getting this info. If that was the case, if i put mine back on I would be getting well over 22 mpg in the city. I'm gonna pretend you meant .00008 mpg :fart:

Since I took mine off gas has gone up enough to make it seem like I've lost 8 mpg. But really there's little if no change.

I removed mine BTW, didn't clear parking curbs with it on...

i took mine off because i did not want to keep dragging it on parking curbs and in deep snow.

What did you take off on yours? My 03 just had the gray lower valance where the foglights are. Did you remove that or something else?
