Park Assist Problem

Alright guys I need some help. I recently purchased a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 z71 with pretty much all the bells and whistles and love it. However, it is giving me a headache with the back up sensors or park assist. Every once in a while when i get in and start the truck, it comes up on the display telling me that the park assist is off, but I didn't turn it off. The light will be lite up on the button as is consistent with it being turned off. Upon pressing the button it will flash at me and remain turned off. I noticed the problem starting after hauling my trailer for the first time with the new truck. I assume it is to turn itself off when hauling a trailer which I thought was a great feature, but since then ( maybe coincidence ) I have noticed this problem arising. Sometimes it will start working when putting the truck in reverse, but other times it makes me wait until the next time I get in the truck. So far it has not been a problem on consecutive start ups and is only and intermittent problem. I teach at a high school with a Tech II and am somewhat familiar with using it. I would love to solve this problem on my own as we all know how difficult solving these intermittent problems at a dealership can be as the problem will never show its ugly face at the dealership.

Thanks

Dan

Are you leaving your hitch in the receiver? If so the sensors are detecting it. I have that problem with mine when I leave the hitch in the receiver after towing my boat.

Also in the cold months (freezing) dont use a high pressure hand washing wand to clean off the back bumper. Water will freeze and cause a constant backup alarm until they thaw and dry out (days and days later). I even tried drying with a hair dryer with no help, the water must get inside the sensor.

heavy rain causes this on mine.. when Socal has those heavy Rains in Dec, everytime I drove they extremely wet streets and kicked up lots of water mine would do this..

I suspect it is a reflection of the water on the sensor.. what gets me is it errors while I am moving forward.. makes no sense, it shouldn't even be active.. dealer could find no fault with it though and it's been fine since the rains stopped.

On my truck, the parking assist will turn off if the truck is put into reverse and the parking brake is on. Once the parking brake is released, it will turn back on.

i have this same problem, it will work fine for a week or so and then not work at all for a day or two, i do have a hitch that i leave on the truck, but if thats the issue, wouldn't it always be off instead of once in a while??
