Tpms Light

I just got my truck about a month ago, it came with aftermarket 20's and the tpms light has been on ever since i bought it, during the test drive i thought it was just due to it being cold outside but the light has been on ever since. Is it possible that when the rims were put on they didn't put the sensors in?? is there a way to check this without bringing it to the shop and them tearing my tires apart??

More than likely it does not have the sensors. You can take it by a GM dealer have them try to program it. They should not have to brake the tire down to see if it has sensors.

I'm confused... You just bought the truck and it had the warning light on? Why didn't you take it back to the dealership? It's a law the truck has the TPMS in it, how are they able to sell you a truck without them? Was there some declaration stating the truck came without them? Another dumb question would be, Have you checked the tire pressure? Do you have the proper amount of air pressure?

I'd take it back to the dealership you bought it from and have them figure out why the lights on.

yeah the light was on, but i figured it was on because it was cold outside and the air in the tires had compressed alittle, tripping the light..but i was wrong, yeah i did check the pressure and they are all good. i didn't know that was the law for that to be working, i bought it from a dealer but they weren't a gm dealer, would that matter if i were to bring it back?? there was no declaration about the tpms sensors, and when i check the pressure via the dash computer it shows all dash marks for the tire pressure, so im assuming they are not there or not programmed.. thanks for the response though

Check with your local GM dealership, because it's government mandated they be installed, I'd assume the dealer who sold them should be liable for making them work. The sensors aren't that bad in price. You can find a set for under $100 bucks on ebay, but I believe the point should be made they should have been working before the dealership was able to sell the vehicle since its a safety item. It would be no different than a dealership selling you a vehicle after someone took out the seat belts. They just can't do that. :smash:

Yea steven is right..... I would take it back to the dealer you bought it from and tell them they need to provide them & install, or they need to pay for you to go get them done. It is a government mandated safety thing

Called the dealer i bought it from and told them the situation (after 3 days and talking to multiple "wrong" people) nobody seemed to know about the federal mandate there.. weird.. They told me to bring it to a gm dealer and to let them know what the gm dealer finds, for some reason i was missing a sensor in one tire. Gm installed a new sensor for $125 and the original dealer said they will pay me back for it. Everything worked fine but then on my way home the light came on again and now the only tire that is reading is the one with the new sensor.. Called the gm dealer back and they said it is a warranty issue now and they will replace whatever is necessary free of charge.. Hopefully this PITA will be over soon.

All the sensors where giving me a reading for an hour or so and their computer detected sensors so I know they are there just not working or the receiver is not working right

can you let me know where i can find this stated at?? the dealership is being a bunch of azzclowns now and are requesting proof of this mandate since they are clueless before they will think about paying for it.

Thanks

Go to the above site and find the final rule for TPMS, print it and take it to the dealer. Tell him that you were sold a vehicle with a safety system required to be installed by the OEM that was disabled or inoperative.

The federal law requiring the TPMS is a direct result of actions by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration from the Ford Explorer tire failures and subsequent crashes, which evidence indicated were from underinflated tires.
