Is it a CATernational or an Interpillar? Who know's but its coming this spring. I work at an Altorfer store, which is a CAT parts/service dealer. Just thought I would post up this truck news... so here is what I received:

To all employees:

Several months ago, Caterpillar announced their entrance into the vocational truck market. Since that time, Cat and their dealer organizations have been working on "dealer readiness" as the product nears introduction.

Altorfer Inc.'s first decision was to determine where the truck product would line up under our current structure. It was decided that it would be in the Power Systems Division. Secondly, a prospectus was completed to determine opportunity, sales and service needs, and future organizational requirements.

Then right off the CAT website:

The Cat Vocational Truck Era Begins

In 2011, Caterpillar will unveil our highly anticipated on-highway vocational truck. Before Caterpillar engineers started designing it, we asked vocational truck customers what they want and need from their trucks. We are focused squarely on making this customer input a reality and will deliver a full line of vocational trucks that are built for the jobs you do.

The Vocational Trucks start rolling off the line in mid-2011, and these work trucks will handle a wide range of demanding applications. They will move the rock, haul the trash, pump the water, deliver the concrete and transport everything from harvested logs to our heavy equipment.

For a brief glimpse of the Cat CT660 and the chance to win a trip to the unveil event at CONEXPO in Las Vegas, visit www.DriveCat.com.

What you guys think?

Personally, Caterpillar aint what they used to be.. it's nor really their fault completely, but there hasn't been a great CAT engine out there for a long long time..The parts and service are also not what they are cracked up to be and $$$$$

Cat got out of the truck engine business last year and they have basically joined teams with International to build engine and now obviously trucks. (That's an International tractor with Cat badges on it.. )

The parts are high, but the service depends on where you go. We bend over backwards and eat warranty cost stuff that CAT won't back all the time.

Also it is an Int'l truck w/ Cat badges. Cat did get out of the OTR truck engine business last year, the EPA wants the air coming out of the engine cleaner than when it went in, and Cat just decided to spend their money on the heavy equipment, and power systems.

As for that being a rough draft, it probably is..... since the steering wheel is on the left hand side of the truck.

My dads 03 Kenworth T-600 has a 500 CAT engine in it. That thing will haul like theres nothing behind it. He loves it, and after having one with a Cummins in it he said he'll never own anything ever again except for a CAT. Looks like he'll have to buy used though since they wont be in new trucks anymore.

i work on CAT equipment eeryday, big stuff tho. 24H/24M grators, D11's D10's, D8's, 992/998 front end loaders and of course the almighty 797 haul truck. it may seem easy to rag on cat for being soooo pricy. but i dont blame them, i think cat does a wonderful job supporting mines and with parts/service. SIS (cats service info system) beats out anything else...case doesnt have that, neither does john deere, or hitachi or bucyrus or P&H ooorrrrr komatsue CAT does have there problems but way less than any other competitor (as far as service goes) people just think they are junk but its only because cat equip is everywhere. i dont know the exact numbers for the oilsands but im sure that 50% of the equipment force is covered by finning (albertas cat dealer) in the oilsands. im no fanboy LOL like i said i have to WORK on cat shit everyday LOL but i do think they do a wonderful job considering how much crap they got out there... BTW i doubt you will see that truck in production

That may not be the finished product, but there is a CATernational/InterPILLAR vocational truck in the works. Nothing is going to be CAT on it really, other than the badges.

I'll take a cummins in my truck any day over a cat. When it comes time to get something fixed, your local heavy duty mechanic can help you out. Cat cuts those guys out of the loop not giving them access to their diagnostic program so you have to go to them to get something fixed engine wise.

Back on topic, it's a little late to be getting in the truck market. There are a lot of people loyal to a certain brand. And I kind of doubt cat is going to price their trucks cheaper then an international truck and very few people are going to pay more for the same truck.

IDK about all that. Dad had an engine light on in his truck and he took it to your basic run of the mill mechanic, and he read the code and replaced the bad sensor. Anyhow he fixed just about everything constantly on the Cummins where as the CAT with over 900,000 miles on it he really hasn't fixed to much engine wise...
