1996 GMC Sub K2500, (4x4, 7.5 engine).

Would like to change the front and rear differential oils but don't have the owner's manual.

Looking for the recommended oil type.

The Chilton manual I have is not clear, and calls for 2 different types; SAE 80W-90, GL-5 and SAE 80W-90.

Just wondering if GL-5 is OK for both differentials.

Thanks.

Whatever you put in one you can use in the other too. Use a good quality synthetic. Either 75w-90 or 80w-90. I've always gone with the 75w-90 Amsoil. Don't forget about your transfer case, if you haven't serviced it.

Here's a link for info and capacities for your vehicle.

You can download a copy of your manual here.
