Trans ? Help

I went to pick up my plow yesterday on my way there I noticed the trans was shifting hard .I thought that maybe since it was 7 degrees that was the reason. loaded the plow on the truck and head home truck shifts fine for the first set of shifts then ding comes on the check engine light . back to shifting hard. I took the truck to my buddies garage and he got a trans slipping code .Any ideas

 

when I left the garage the truck shifted fine the whole way home about 7 shift cycles

 

 

questions

 

1) should I start looking for a tranny ?

 

2) any ideas on what is wrong ?

 

3) where can I get a good reliable 4l80e at gm price for a reman is $2400

 

BTW truck ia a 2005 2500hd gmc sierra x cab short bed 4x4

With looking to plow, GM reman warranty that is probably the route I would go. Not that you can't get one built better yet but the price will likely be higher and the warranty shorter.
