Off-road Lighting..

I've got most of my off-road lighting products purchased and in hand now, I am adding 4 lights to the roof rack and 4 to the grille guard, and 2 @ the rear under the bumper.

 

 

I will have 5 switches:

 

 

 

 

2 of them will fit in the overhead console on the right where the Suburban Electric Rear seat fold down buttons are. so I will use that area for the roof lights..

 

 

 

but the dash in the GMT900s (Avalanche) doesn't have much in the way of space for auxiliary switches or whatnot, like the GMT800s did.. no empty spaces anywhere to put the other 3 switches.. where does everyone mount their aux switches, and do you have pictures?

I hate to be the one to accidentally flash you once all this is over with. I don't even know what your dash looks like so I can't recommend a spot.

as for flashing me.. you made me LOL.. as much fun as it might be, it's illegal to have the lights uncovered in the city.. They will always have covers and I am setting the roof ones up with a quick disconnect so I can remove them when not off-road/camping as they will effect MPG.. I'm sure the fronts will too, be being they are attached to the grille guard, pointless to remove them.

Looking at that pic, I'd probably mount them in the front of the tray that's in the front of the console. Not in the bottom of the tray but on the front wall of it if you know what I mean.

for the switches and the HAM radio, problem is then I lose all my storage space for my phone, and misc crap..

Why not mount them in the console, that way no one can tell it's not factory?

well because thanks to GM's design the center console bucket and a tray that comes out, it sits on the top part of the inside of the storage bid, but rather than tipping up, or being hinged, it actually lifts out to get to the stuff below it, which is where the switches would need to go..

 

see my dilemma, there just isn't anywhere pleasant to put them.. in my 2000 I had them under the little door in the console in front of the cup holders.

It's not finding a place that's hard, it's finding a place where they won't stick out so much. Especially those switches, they're not near as simple as drilling a hole.

I would second mounting them in the tray between the dash and the counsel.I have mine mounted between the cigarette plugs but since you already have buttons there that won't work

yeah, where they look nice and not like a $2 hack job on a $50K truck..

 

some one on the Mopar forums I admin suggested I wire in a remote control unit, then all I will have to have is a key fob with 4 buttons..

yeah all the OEM buttons I never use..

 

do you have a picture of yours? it actually might work to move the factory buttons since I never use them (park assists off, electric pedals, and traction control (ok I use that one))

I can't find a pic of it at the moment but if you need one I can snap one. I have the All Terrain with the center concole. If you have this interior forward of the cup holders is a narrow flip up cubby the same width as the cup holders. I removed the factory insert, bought a sheet of ABS plastic from ebay for like $5, cut it to size and have a nice new switch plate. I like it because I can just close the factory cover and everything is hidden.

yeah I had that cup holder thing.. I traded it for the open bucket one because I need the space for my cell, and a hand full of other misc things I carry with me for work, and that little pen holder console wasn't cutting it.
