Newbie with a dumb question  :)

Sorry everyone, I didn't find the answer to my quick and easy question searching, so here I am making a fool of myself.    My '95 has a 350, is it a small block or big?  Needless to say, I'm not that familiar with my engine yet.

Ok guys, here is a question about the 95' 350.....uh.....block. Just kidding. I have a 95' GMC Z71 extended cab 4x4 with the stock motor. My wife has driven it since we bought it new, and we have used it as our family vehicle until last month. She got the new van, I inherited the truck; which I have wanted as mine for quite a while. Here's where I am leading.....this truck has never had the power to get out of it's own way; throttle body, not the vortec. I think the stock hp is around 200. I put a dynomax exhaust and k&n filter on it with very minimal results; but it sounds great. Can one of you point me in the right direction to find hp mods for this motor?

I have built many motors, and I like to rely on info from the people who have the most experience with a set-up. Are there any simple tricks for this motor?

Thanks  :)

TBI spacer from powerade and Hypertech Thermosmaster/160 thermostat combined did a LOT for me. try an open element filter assembly, MSD 8.5 wires and Bosch Platinum's too, they are supposed to help too.(I don't have MSD wires yet, but the plugs do alright)

My opinion only; the bosch platinums are not worth the cost. I put a set of them in my truck and within 25,000 miles they were toast. My dyno guy said that thats pretty common for these plugs. He told me to run the stock plugg because he hasn't seen any problem with them, and no difference in power. Blue streak cap, rotor, and and a good set of fitted wires are a better investment. These changes made a big improvement in my truck. Thanks for the info on the other items. I'm going to put together a goody list and then make it happen.

I haven't noticed a diff in my truck, but they really helped my moms car. they are only about 25-50 cents more a plug, it dosen't bother me a lot to test them out, every vehicle is different.

Sorry if my post sounded like you were wrong silverado. You are absolutely right on each vehicle being different. Just wanted to let everyone know about my experience using them in my truck. The stock plugs looked clean after 52,000 miles. I changed to the Bosch thinking they would be an even better plug. For the past few months I was having a lot of trouble with rough running and when I changed the plugs back to stock it solved the problem. Hope you have better luck with them.

    • From what I gather, you have a 2.7 Diesel  You cannot use Chevron gas in it.  Howes has a diesel add-in and it states it cleans injectors.  Me personally, wouldn't bother with it.  If it's not broke, don't fix it.     Just my two cents worth.
    • Looking up on the web you can the information that would seem obvious. You asked engine components to do more. You get more wear. The answer is they can last just as long but required more maintenance. Apparently having to change lifters, cam and associated components are maintenance or repairs. In some research the normal life span of valve train components are 80-100 miles with 3-5K miles oil change. So the next logical conclusion would be cost per mile. I use that analogy with my wife all the time with vehicles. My Odyssey is approaching 170K. The cost per mile will go up at 200K with maintenance. Looking at a low cost car. A K-4 with a 10-10 warranty. Selling my Ridgeline that’s about to hit the same maintenance milestone. My argument becomes not only I get worry free driving. But at no cost increases. Because I take the money from my Ridgeline and maintenance savings and other potential savings. I’m driving for free. So tying it with a bow. It makes you wonder. Is this a grand conspiracy by the auto makers? Raise the potential maintenance high enough. Buyers by extended warranty to 100K miles. Do the minimum maintenance required. Trade in at the warranty end. How long should they last? That question is what keeps people up at night. The answer is much more complicated than it used to be.
    • Could you cite your source on this?  I cannot find any reference to the US secretly taking the oil.  I find references that the US helped oil tankers move through the Strait of Hormuz, but nothing about what you're stating.
    • Same thought, also the everything doesn't have the details real photos do (talking about the noise in the photo)
    • Since the media YOU and your buddies are programmed to watch failed to mention this, I'll fill you in.   Trump admitted today that we've grabbed 150 MILLION barrels of oil from the Iranian tankers locked in the Strait by our Navy. We turned off their transponders, took them out to sea in the dark of night since they have zero radar capabilities anymore, offloaded every drop onto another vessel, and put them back by morning so no one was the wiser. That oil has been en-route THROUGHOUT the entire conflict.   Main reason he admitted this is to let even guys on our own side who joined leftists in complaining about the prices that he hears us all, and has taken steps to make sure this didn't spiral into a BAD situation ... just like the mainstream media has been PRAYING would happen, just so they could gloat. Amazes me how these people are rooting for the destruction of THEIR OWN HOME, just to make a President they don't agree with or like look bad! That's next level TDS!   I know your not capable of giving our President the benefit of the doubt, again due to your deep programming, but THIS is why oil never hit $150 a barrel as predicted by your programmers, AND the reason oil continues falling. Like I said before, Trump's got a plan, and this is proof of it. By the end of his term, we're going to be in GREAT shape for a change!   Since I just spent $3,000 this week on #2 heating oil and gasoline, the war most certainly is ending! 🤣   https://mxmnews.com/article/ba359ac9-2711-4851-92de-187f2400f2dd?breaking-trump-cancels-iran-strikes-deal-now-approved-by-all-parties
