Axle Fluid Replacement, Trans Fluid, Transfer Case Fluid

2003 Yukon 4x4 97,500 miles.

 

The dealer is telling me to replace the front and rear axle fluid every 50,000 miles. I have never had this done. What is the real interval this needs to be done?

 

Transfer fluid was replaced 29,000 miles ago. They said it should be done every 30,000 miles.

What is the real interval this needs to be done?

 

The transmission fluid was replaced 47,000 miles ago. They said it should be replaced every 50,000 miles. What is the real interval this needs to be done?

 

The fuel induction system including injectors was cleaned 38,000 miles ago. They said it should be cleaned every 30,000 miles. What is the real interval this needs to be done?

 

 

I plan to keep this truck to well over 200,000 miles and I want to do these things on time, but I don't want to do them too early. The dealer wants to make money.

Follow your owners manual maintance schedule and you will be OK.

My quadrasteer rear end started making bad noises at 38,000. I was afraid it was blown up, but they assured me it was only in need of new rear end fluid and additive.

 

Turns out they were correct...that took care of it and all is fine at 46,000.

I change my trans fluid every 30,000 miles, but thats just me. Oh yeah I have not had one go out, and I have been driving 51 years. I do the rear end every 25 or 30,000 as well just for the heck of it. I tow a camper though.

Your quadrasteer probably has a G86 limited slip, the only truck that came with one and does require an additive.

I service mine at 50k but I only towed 3 times.

The vehicle is at the dealer right now so I can't check the manual. I looked at the manual a few days ago. The maintenance schedule is listed. There was no mention of when to clean the fuel injectors or changing the axle fluid. I think it said every 100,000 miles for the trans fluid.

GM has no service interval for axle fluids anymore but I believe for your year, 50k was the recommended trans and transfer case interval. I'd definently be changing the spin on trans filter on the Allison at 50k if not sooner. Just my opinion.

As stated above, go by your owners manual.

 

Before dexron VI came out and GM extended their drain intervals on the transmissions, 30k was a good rule to go by for changing out the transmission fluid. Now with dexron VI I would go 50k unless you tow/haul frequently then back down to 30k.

 

Differentials, if you tow it is good to get the factory fill out early and then every 50k is a good rule as well. If you think about it, that is once every 3 years or more for the average person.

 

Transfer case. I changed mine out at 30k and that is a good time frame as well. It only takes two qts and is easy as can be to change.

 

Fuel injectors. Never had any of my vehicles cleaned. Just run a good quality fuel from a station that has a high turn over and you shouldn't have any issues.

Nick is correct. In most cases, a good Top Tier gas will have all the additives needed to keep Fuel Injectors clean. But if you want some extra reassurance, run a bottle of Chevron Techron through the tank every year, unless you fill up at chevron all the time, which already has Techron in the fuel as part of their add pack.

Found it almost unbelieveable how much better my truck runs on Shell V-Power fuel. I'm done buying the crap from anywhere else, now.
