2003 Yukon 97,000 miles

When do the shocks have to be replaced. It would be nice if the truck rode better over bumps. Do you think it rides worse over bumps as the shocks get older?

There is nothing in the maintenance schedule about it.

Thanks.

At 97,000 miles I would definitely replace them.

Some people replace the stock shocks as soon as they buy the truck with a good set of Bilstein shocks, because they feel the factory shocks don't even come close to the ride quality they can get with Bilstein shocks. On my 2006 GMC I put Bilsteins on at ~30K and immediatly noticed the ride quality improve dramatically.

Are the bilstein 5100 series going to make the truck ride stiffer or not?

I want a softer ride not stiffer.

Then go with something from Monroe

At what mileage should I look at replacing my shocks? I'm currently at 68K with minimal off-road/towing driving.

You would notice a difference if you replaced yours

bilstein has a comfort ride and an hd as options also. shockwarehouse.com

Changed mine at around 66k miles. I put on Monroe Reflexes and they have worked perfectly. I don't get the seriously harsh stiff ride but still able to use my truck for what it was designed for. Not to mention I got a good discount on them parts store.

i replaced mine at 90k...after i noticed my truck rode like a boat...bounce bounce bounce after every impurity in the road...bilstein hds are really stiff..just a heads up

I replaced mine at 68k, bounce the corners.. does it goe down, rebound and stop? Also inspect.. is it grimy like oil is leaking out of the stock shocks> I had a broken rea shaft and a leaking front passenger side. I went with monroe reflexes. amazing ride quality.. just soaks up the bumps.
