Snowmobilig got in the way of getting my system all done so when the piggy bank fills back up, I'll be back at it.

I've decided to amplify the door speakers as well now and I'm really fighting myself as to how to wire it all up. Not sure if I want rca inputs to the amp or high levels. Not sure if I want to retain the factory speaker wiring or run all new. Not 100% sure where I want to mount both amps. You know, decisions, decisions. LOL.

Skank; Great post! My heart sank when I saw the pics of the break-in, but I can wait to see your new set up. I'm getting ready to do a very similar install in my truck, and was going to purchase the Subthump box for 2 10's. I actually just picked up 2 Alpine Typr R 1043D's for half price. I was really bummed when you said they dont fit because I got such a good deal on mine. I have 30 days to return them and need to make a decision asap. I read on Alpine's website that the new (Type R 1043D) subs are 20% more shallow than the older ones (not as deep). The older Type R's (1042D) have a silver cone with a large red type R logo in the center. Mine, the 1043D, has a dark grey cone with a smaller red type R logo at the bottom of the cone. Do you happen to know whan model your Type R's were? My other option is the JL 10W3's, but I like the half price I paid for the Type R's better. Thanks for your help and great install & pics!!

I'm sorry i couldn't reply much sooner. i can't remember the exact model of my type r's. its the newer model though. i had to break the magnet cover off in order for them to fit into the box. i have w3v3's now and they fit just fine.

I got my subthump box the other day and my Type R's fit, but only if the legs on the basket are positioned just right - no magnet clearance issues. There is still a little room to trim the box inside - I might do that just to get max clearance. Your truck looks good! Once my system is done I plan on leveling mine with the same size tires as yours. How dark are your front windows? Any new stereo pics?

And this is why I will NEVER let someone else do even a simple speaker install on one of my vehicles EVER again. F'n hacks. That WAS a brand new speaker.

Man, thats just wrong. I agree..I have NEVER let any one else do any kind of stereo install on my vehicles - never know what you will get.

The only reason they ever touched it was because they needed custom mounts, I didn't have time and they are close by. I'll run that speaker now until it blows then I'm chucking it through the window of their f'n showroom.

Did I mention that I am a little pissed? Lol.

Sucks your truck was broken into. I remember when I got a knock on my door in the morning before heading to work several years back. Those fckers broke my window in my new Titan just to steal my Escort X50 radar detector. I mean, it was a $350 blue display radar detector, but man was I ticked. I had just bought the Titan a week before that happened.

One way to get those door speakers to sound better is to seal up the holes in the door with some thin wood. I did my rears and myFocal K2P's sound so much better than my Focal Utopia's and the Utopia's are Focal's top of the line components... a couple steps above my K2p's. I haven't started this on my front doors. It was pretty time consuming doing my rear doors. It looks like my 08 is different than your 2010. Mine has several holes as to where yours looks like you have one large hole. I'll try to dig pictures up for ya.

I also had that exact same Subthump box. Sold it and I am completing my ported box for my newly arrived Sundown Audio SA-8v2's. I'm fitting 4 of those in a 3 cuft net box tuned to 30hz with 3000wrms going to them. They are the SPL models so they are suppose to take more wattage than their rating @ 500wrms. So each will be receiving 750wrms.

Finally got the amp wired up today. I know, it's not going to breathe well under the seat but it's not going to starve for air there anymore than it would behind the seat and at least here its accessible. I'll probably built a rack to mount it over under the other side of the back seat anyhow, soon. Sounds good anyway.

I found a picture of what I was talking about regarding sealing up your doors with some thin 1/8" wood. Like I said, made my rear Focal K2P components pack more of a punch in the mid range with less of a hollow sound than my higher end Focal Utopia's in the front.

I lost all of my car audio build pictures I did on other people's vehicles + most of mine, so I only have the one picture.
