Gmt800 Transmission Shifting 1-2

My 2006 Sierra SLE2, 5.3L, has the ole 1-2 light acceleration shifting bump. It has 135,000 miles on it. I took it to a dealership who charged me $300 to take the bottom of the transmission pan off and found some metal shavings but I'm skeptical. He tried to load new software/reset adaptors but the 1-2 shift bump remains. He's thinking I need a new transmission but apart from the 1-2 shift bump, I think the transmission is basically solid. Anyhoo...

Are they correct? Just drive it til it dies and then rebuild it?

every 800 i've driven which is roughly 6 different ones(4.3,4.8 and 5.3) all do it...i think its a bug in the design, i had mine updated and it lessened the bump some but its still there..i have a friend with an 03 with 150k on it of pure hard towing with zero maintance and it still works fine

So basically the dealership is trying to rip me off then? Typical. Makes me wonder why I even let them change my oil. I try to turn my own wrenches but with yougins it's hard to get the time.

Nice to know its a feature. jro - 2001silvie - thanks for the quick replies!

1-2 accumulator should fix you up with the info you have given. Recondition/clean the valve body while its out. Turn your PCS 1/8 turn if you want to firm up the shifts a little. As far as the dealer reprogramming your PCM, thats not money wasted, its always a good idea to have the latest calibration. Use part numbner 24255821 and you will need new valvebody gaskets and I recomend getting a new spacer plate.

Rob - Answers below

1. was the oil dirty before they dropped the pan,??

Yep. He found some shavings on the bottom too. He did replace the tranny filter.

2. how many kilometers is 135k miles ?( ithink you mean 135k KM )

135,000 MILES. 230,000km

3. no they are not trying to rip u off..

Good to know

4. the reprogramming works i think(that came out after i left gm)

He didn't reprogram - just reset the adaptors.

5. did u see the pan when they dropped it?

Nope.

6. what dealer in Calgary was it?

GSL.

GMTech - The tech said he didn't think replacing the 1-2 accumulator wouldn't solve the problem. Is that a bad thing?

The Valve-Body - is that something I can do? And where is the PCS?

BTW - how much should it cost me to have someone to do the 1-2 accumulator and clean the valve body?

I really appreciate the help here guys.

BIG QUESTION - if I leave it alone, will the issue get worse or stay the same?

Cheers.

230k km on a 5 yr old 4l60E.... that's over double the average for mileage ,,

get a rebuilt tranny from the general installed ..

it comes with a 3 yr 160k km warranty,

it comes with a MANITORY trans cooler flush and flow rate thru the cooler (recorded on work order for warranty purposes).

it s better than a 1 yr warranty on a rebuild (20k km)

they didn't reprogram because?? resetting shift adapts is done only after a rebuild, the tech did not know about it or sumfin,...

i have a thread in on a another site about this bump i've felt before and this reprogram is recent --2+yrs me thinks

i left Calgary in 98 and dont know anyone at GSL

scott,do u belong to TBG ?
