Removing Husky Mud Guards

I recently installed Husky mud guards on my 2009 Sierra, and now I'm having a change of heart. My issue is with the way the front guards look on the truck. I find that they have more flare to the design then you'd see with the GM molded guards, which I find sit relatively flush to the fender. I just don't think these look right on the truck, and now I'm thinking about pulling them back off. I realize that I should have put more thought into my mud guard decision before drilling into my baby, but hind sight is always 20/20.

 

Fortunately this was done less than a week ago. If I take these guards off now, what can I do with the holes to ensure that I don't end up with rust within the next year?

clean the holes well, and put some touch up paint on there.

as said clean them up, but hit them with primer first, then paint.
