Led Taillight Bulbs?

Recommended Posts

I once came across a website that sold some supersweet looking LED tailight and reverse light bulbs. Does anyone know of any LED Bulbs that would work here, not looking to replace the whole taillight assembly. I'd like a set to throw in the third brake light assembly as well if anyone knows, just want something brighter

I got all my bulbs from http://www.gorecon.com/index.php . The problem you'll have with doing just bulbs, is "rapid flash". You'll have to buy the resistors from recon and splice them inline. I changed the whole tail light so I didn't have to cut anything and the price of all the bulbs plus the resistors it wasn't a whole lot more.

I dont like the looks of any aftermarket taillight assemblies on the market, they look too "aftermarket". kind of trying to keep it looking mostly stock

I can respect that, the recon site I listed has a bulb replacement guide that will give you all your bulb numbers. Most all LED's come from china/japan manufactures so I'd say find the best price and go for it. You will still need resistors for each tail light/ turn signal bulb... 4 of them.

Autolumination is a good place. I've ordered all my bulbs from here. I have LED tails and reverse bulbs from here and both are awesome and bright! My thrd taillight still have halogens and haven't swapped em out yet.

I have ordered stuff from www.superbrightleds.com before but I guess I am looking for some more specific feedback, there are so many kinds out nowadays I don't want to end up getting bulbs that aren't bright enough, what specific kind did you put in your truck Masonbid, and do you have a picture? Did you need to put in a load resistor for the turn signals?

IIRC our trucks don't have flasher units. The rapid flash is controlled by the BCM. The rapid flash can be disabled by the dealership.

The trucks that come from the factory with no bed and taillights already have this feature disabled. It is what allows the upfitters to run LED taillights and turn signals.

This would be nice so you could take advantage of the lower amp draw of the led's without adding resistors.

Beav84 - can you confirm that the replacement tail lights from Recon have the resistors built in?

I heard you can have them do this but my dealership said they wouldn't modify any programing for an aftermarket part. Yes the tail lights are just plug and go as long as its a 2007.5-2009. In 2010 they changed the reverse lights from a 3156 to a 921 type bulb that uses a smaller socket. I changed mine back to a 3156 bulb and socket. Every manufacture I ran across is like this. The sockets shipped were only $17.

Could you show a further away picture of the lights off and on?
