My 07 (45k miles) has the belt noise too. Some days are worse than others. When it first started, I removed the belt and checked the tensioners and everything felt fine. I guess it's time for me to get a new belt because the noise is quite embarrassing.

You said in original post that the truck only has 25k. How is the bumper to bumper gone?

Oh my, can't say I've ever had a truck hit the 3yr mark before I hit the 36,000 mile mark. Either way, if the truck only has 25k on it, any decent dealer would take care of you.

Gates belts are the shiznit lol. You can get them as "Napa micro-V" or much cheaper as Gates micro-v from www.rockauto.com. go to www.retailmenot.com to get discount codes.

Is it Squeal or Chirp? Belt chirp is caused by a misalignment of the pullies. The most common cause is the power steering pulley as it is simply pressed on. Chirp, sounds just like it's name. You will hear a chirp, chirp, chirp. Often the noise will go away after a short period and will come and go depending on the weather. The easiest way to determine if it is chirp and not another issue is to spray a small amount of water on the belt. It it goes away for a short while then most like it is chirp and an alignment problem.

It is a chirp... chirp chirp chirp chirp

Do the test I suggested. Use a bottle like a windex bottle, or even use the windex. It will only take a tiny little squirt on the belt while the engine is running to make it stop. If it does you most likely have a belt alignement issue. If it does not then most likely it is a bearing on an idler or tensioner pulley. While the engine is off, spray a little wd-40 in a tensioner pulley at the bolt. Start the engine and see if the chirp stops. If not repeat for any other pulleys. But I put my money on the chirp and alignment. It is a very common GM problem. If you are still under warranty the dealer can easlily fix it, let them know it is chirp and what you did to diagnose it as it may not do it for them. But let them know you want the pulley alignment checked.

Just got my truck back....Service manager really took care of me. They found the belt to be out of alignment and replaced the Crankshaft Dampner and also gave me a new belt as well. They said the old belt was warn due to it being out of true.

Also had the Slip Yoke regreased. Was getting a slight clunk every once and a while.

They called me first thing in the morning and told me that the slip yoke regrease isnt covered. He helped me and put it through under the warentee...

All-in-all a good dealership experience...Ive gotten all my parts from them, but never used the service dept.

I've got the same problem with my L33 5.3. I have had a chirp since it was new in the same conditions...cold or damp. It goes away but I let the tuck sit twice since I had it and the chirp is more like a screeetch with a chirp! I lightly sprayed belt dressing (I know not to use it) and it stopped till it was not being sprayed anymore. It actually got louder but its been making noise no matter when or how long I drive. It sounds like its the tensioner when I put my ear near it. I have has this truck in the shop 4 times for this when it was under warranty and they replaced the belt 3 times...! They said alignment is good but the truck now has 63,000 miles and no warranty. I will try some of these tests mentioned above and see what happens before I replace the tensioner and belt. I can believe its alignment but its been checked.

Sounds like an alignment issue considering the belt was replaced three times. Maybe it wasnt even checked. I would go to a different dealership.

Trying not to highjack this post but I sprayed the windex and it stopped for a few minutes then started chirping badly again. If its alignment, what or where should I be taking it; to the dealer or can any shop handle this? Should I have the belt replaced too? Thank you.

My truck is having this exact same problem and its getting worse. I have an 09 4.3 silverado with 30k on it. I got it last fall and shorty after I got it, it started chirping so I put a new gatorback belt on. 6 months later the noise is back and getting progressively worse. It does eventually go away after 10-15 minutes but its very annoying.

Is this alignment problem something that any competent garage can fix or should I just bring it to a GM dealer?
