I am thinking about sending my computer in for a commercial tune to increase the mpg's of my truck. I have seached the forum for information on the subject and have not quite found what I need to know. Specifically has anyone:

1. Had commercial tune to increase mpg's?

2. What company did it for you?

3. Are you satisfied with the results?

4. What was the mpg increase?

5. What was the price?

Yes, Completely happy with the tunes I've had done. I've used Wait4me and Blackbear and about to use him again Very soon. Not everyone sees an increase in mileage, but you'll def know the truck runs better. I did see a little mileage increase of 1-2mpg.

Wait4me was $75 and Blackbear was $250.

I got a tune from Justin at Blackbear, didn't see much or any of a MPG gain but the performance gain was excelant and very noticable. With a tune and the autocal it was $500 and well worth it. That price included the autocal, performance engine tuning for 91 octane and E-85 and a towing and performance transmission tune. Well worth it IMO.

just curious though, what are you getting for mpg's?

You will not see enough of an improvement in mileage to offset the cost of the tune. The tune is more for power than mileage. The factory is pretty good at getting the best mileage out of the PCM/ECM, but that is generally at the cost of power. I got better mileage after the tune, but it was minor. I got more of an increase in city mileage by swapping to 4.10 gears than I got from the BlackBear tune that was done after the gear swap.

The reason I got better mileage with 4.10 in the city (compared to 3.23) was the increased torque you get from higher numerical gear sets.

City

Tuned for E-85- 10.6 according to DIC so far

Tuned for 91 octane- 13.6 in summer 12.4 in winter

Highway

Anywhere between 14 and 18(all 91 octane), depending on speed, wind, hills, etc.

The one time i ran E-85 on the highway i got 10, although i was going 75+ with at least a 30 MPH head wind in crappy weather.
