'03 Taillight Assemblies

Has anyone replace their Silverado taillight assemblies with the new design from the '03 Chevy truck. I like the large round reflectors and the red turnsignal lamp.

The local dealer is selling them for $215 a pair installed. Good price?

They fit an '03 GMC....I paid $84/each and they simply plug in. Takes about 10 minutes. I don't think they changed the bed or light dimensions.

JP Customs has the whole upgrade kit for you. For older trucks you'll need the harness. Jason provides you w/ all parts and detailed instructions.

I bought mine at JPCustoms for $205 a pair including new wiring harnesses for each light. They fit my Sierra C3 perfectly. Very simple installation. They have a fourth bulb though so you will need the new harnesses.

What is the 4th bulb?? Side marker light?

The fourth bulb is for the bottom section that serves both as a side light and a running light. It comes on with the headlights along with the upper section. It is the only part of the taillight that can be seen from the side at night. The bottom section is also reflectorized. It's a smaller, lower wattage bulb than the other three.

The upper section also serves as the brake light - dual filament.

The 2nd section is the turn signal and (obviously) the 3rd section is the back-up light.

The bulb bases all mount to the back of the light via slotted keyways and twist about a quarter turn or less to tighten. However, the 2003 does not have the push-to-unlatch lever and post that my 2001 does. I didn't try the old mount in the new light.

Here's another picture that shows the sections better. (Please excuse the mess.) The bottom section is really red, not orange. The camera flash is lighting up the reflector.
