Help Choosing A Hood Deflector

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a slim hood protector in chrome. I've seen some terrible ones and would like some advice before I order. I am leaning towards the AVS aeroskin guard. It seems to have a nice tight fit and wouldn't stand out.

Anyone used this model or have any recommendations......

Hi,

I purchased a Stampede Chrome Bug Shield (Model: Vigilante Premium) for my new Silverado.

It's not as slim as you are hoping I guess and yes I think it does stand out. I just got it yesterday and I installed it right away. It may not be what you are looking for but I thought of showing you. I think it looks super. Photo attached. Installing it was a breeze. You simply have to install 3 gromets & screws in holes that are already pre-drilled under the hood. Perfect fit.

Stampede also makes another model called "Vigilante Low Profile". Check out their site.

Cheers!

I personally like the GM hood deflector more than the aftermarket. In addition to perfectly contouring the hood, the quality of material seems to be much stronger. I have owned the GM style deflector on both my old classic and new nbs, and have also installed it on seven other gm pickups.

Heres the factory chrome hood deflector, the installation is really slick with all the holes already in the hood and GM utilizes them for the protector.

I agree. For the GMT900 Sierra you cannot beat the GM hood deflector. It's contoured for the Sierra hood and does not cover the upper chrome strip on the hood like others do. Quality and ease of install is great. Also, there is no noise at any speed vs other models where people report added windshield noise after install. You can also get them colormatched to your truck. I picked up a Fire Red OEM on Ebay for $75 a few months back.

i didnt like the GM one as it did not cover the upper chrome strip on the hood, the reason i got a hood deflector was to protect the hood/chrome strip.

One thing to add that with a hood deflector alot of stones/bugs hit your windsheild.

I went with the AVS aero skin.

Ironmask,

Have you got any side views by chance? I have a new HD2500 that the wife has already put chrome door handles and vent visors, not sure if i will go with a bughshield in chrome as well but leaning that way, just dont want it to be over the top.

Hi,

The deflector that 2010LTZ4x4 posted very much resembles the one that I purchased. Note that I did not know that GM made a bug deflector. There's no doubt that GM would guarantee you a good quality product.

I am not an engineer to comment on the quality of the plastic and chrome finish of aftermarket accessories. However, Stampede claim that it is of a high quality and finish and I believe it. But then again, only time will tell. Stampede also make another model which they consider low profile. I personally did not like it as it is too narrow near the ends. For the price you pay for these accessories it should have good qualities, and I feel that If I'm gonna put something chromed, it might as well stand out. I believe that the finish of a chrome accessory will deteriorate faster than a "Smoke" one, but it's a choice that one makes. Either way, I have no regrets over my purchase.

Note that I'm from Canada and the item cost me $158 shipping included. I thought it was a reasonable price.

Cheers to you, and Good Shopping!

AVS Aeroskin are amazing

Thanks for info guys. Ordered the aeroskin in chrome from Summit racing.

How do you guys like the AeroSkin? I looked at one today for a Silverado (they didn't have one for a Sierra) and am on the fence about getting one. I'm sort of leery about the 3m tape used to hold it on.
