8.2 To 9.5 Rear Diff. Swap

Recommended Posts

Talked to a friend of mine tonight and he just bought a 2009 ECSB V-Max that was totaled with only 6000 miles. He bought it for the front clip, He rebuilds wrecks as a side business. I can have the rear end out of it if I want it.

My question is ... will it be a direct swap in regards to the main brake line connection, and overall width.

It s a 3:42 G80 just like I have. I was just kicking around the idea a while back about adding the stronger rear end with him and now he has one.

The truck was bounced off a telephone pole on the passenger side door so the rear is good.

I was thinking the same thing the other day. The 9.5 has rear disks too which would be nice.

Not all 9.5 rear ends have disk brakes, some come with drum :D Yes it will be a direct swap. I'd def. get it :jester:

It may not be all that simple. The disc brakes might require a different master cylinder or possibly even a different ABS module due to the difference in braking systems. Someone with parts info access would need to verify this though.

Your ABS and Traction Control will be a big issue with this swap, especially if the new axle has disc brakes. Will probably require swapping master cylinders and ABS controller. Then you'll run into the issue of whether these parts will work with your stock front brakes. You may also need to have the computer reprogrammed for these parts.

I supose the pinion yoke is worth mentioning also. Not sure if it is beefier and requires a different u-joint or not. So you may need a different drive shaft assuming the donor truck probably has the 4spd and my not be transferable. I believe they only put the 6spd in CC trucks in 09.
