Downfire Sub Box

I have an 04 Silverado ext. cab with 2 JL W-3 10's upfiring under the rear seat, They sound good but it seems everyone has a downfiring box. What if any are the advantages of the downfire? Thanks

I went downfire because I made my own, and those were the only ones I could find to copy from pictures.

plus if you have a downfiring box then you can still fold your seats up and carry a load back there without damaging the cones.

All good points...How about sound quality... better, worse, or the same. I'm leaning towards the subthump duel 10 with amp shelf, I just don't want to make a $155 + shipping mistake

The big advantage is the speaker is protected by the box. Bass is omnidirectional, does not matter what direction you point it, it goes everywhere (unless you point it at another sub that is out of phase). Doubt you would really notice the sound difference.

As far as SQ, it will be about the same. Subwoofers are "non directional" speakers, and will get a very similar sound no matter what the direction. Unlike the front stage of a vehicle where speaker location/direction are alot more important. Especially in the limited space confines of trucks. I would me more concerned about speaker protection rather than changing a subs firing direction in hopes to gain better sound.

I have made a downfiring and upfiring sub boxes for my 05 extended cab. I think the upfiring sound better and with the downfiring I had more rattle. I have 2 12" kicker comps. You also have to know what you want it for and how you use your truck.

The differenc is because in a downfire, the sound waves are pounding directly into the floor causing things to vibrate and rattle. Whereas on an upfire setup, the seat will dampen the soundwaves sp they dont cause vibration.

I got a downfiring box in my truck holding 2 12's and it sounds dam good plus i only paid like 115 for it!
