Dyno Results

So today I had my truck dyno'd after these installs, TBS, Spectre Cold air intake, and a BlackBear performance tune. Well the results are not what I expected, the BBP tune helped out alot, in normal mode I got 224Rear wheel HP and MAX torque of 280, when put into performance mode, it increased to 238 RW HP and 293 MAX torque. Though these numbers seem low, the factors that play in reducing the HP and Torque are great especially being that its a four door truck with all the bells and whistles sitting at over 7100pounds, isnt helpin the truck any but overall topped the speed out at over 140MPH!!! so either way im satisfied with how minor the upgrades and a good increase in HP and Torque are. also no custom exhaust, but when bought, the last owner cut the muffler off to I suppose reduce backpressure and increase noise, which it sounds good. So yall tell me what yall think about all this, good or bad would like any opinion. oh the truck is an 06 Chevy silverado 5.3 V-8 quad cab. 2wheel drive <--- :banghead:

Sounds about right. That 14hp and 13tq out of a tune basically. And thats power to the rear wheels. The other side to the results are the drivability differences over stock. I'm sure it shifts better, gets up to speed better, no more throttle delay, lowered torque management so the powers there on demand. It's not all about the power. :banghead:

The throttle body spacer isn't helping either. I would have ran with it off once or twice to see what the difference was too.

I think thats good results.

Yeah i was thinking the same thing about the TBS, will probably remove it since I see no reason how it really does anything, but I got it for dirt cheap so I decided that it couldnt hurt to try it.

How long after the installs did you do do your pulls? What kind of a dyno? Your computer will continue to learn eeking out power here and there, as it adjusts to your driving and mods.

I love all these guys with bolt-ons who are disappointed with their slow trucks.

It's a truck dude.

Installs been on for awhile, but been having some "problems with pcm" that Justin and I have been trying to figure out but other than that its been a week for the recently new pcm. And I did your standard pulls on the dyno that determined hp trq air/fuel mix and top speed.

ALSO to the truck hater I suppose, Im not disappointed at all, I have NO MAJOR MODS, if you read what I wrote in the beginning you would have seen that im satisfied with the results, hell a top speed of 140, that doesnt seem to slow to me. :banghead:

The original poster commented on the difference on power before and after minor upgrades and the tune. Not speed. Two different things. As stated, he was happy with the top speed.

I can tell you from years of drag racing we figure on about $30 a horsepower when we're building an engine. You figure a Votec Si supercharger for the new Camaro makes 205 HP and costs around $6300, about $31/HP. Even the claims by K&N of 12 HP and a cost of $340 works to $29/hp for the 5.3.

My point being for a 14 HP gain you should figure on spending about $420 so I think this tune is a great deal. Just my opinon.

And that's about right though, tune cost me about. That much.

It sounds as if your top speed was determined from your dyno run? Keep in mind real world top speed will be deifferent than what it can do on a dyno due to wind drag and uneven terrain. Tires roll easier on a dyno because the drums are smooth. Also vehicle weight is not a factor on the dyno either. After all the thing is strapped down while you are doing your pulls. But there is NO WAY a 2wd truck weighs over 7100 lbs unless you always haul about 2000 lbs in the bed. A 4wd CC weighs in around 5500 lbs.

Yeah that was definitely wrong what I put, it should have been 5100 not 7100, but yeah i understand all your factors but I also understand the straight highway that I did 135-137 on. Dont know if it would have went higher or not being that I slowed it down. I think the bed cover helped out drag a good amount, maybe.........

you went 137? ive only gone 126-127 in my 2001 and it was pretty scary. then again i cant find a road to actually top it out

Yeah the scary thing is that I had to hit a slight curve doing 100 or so and that was exhilarating. But after that i had about 8-9 miles of straight highway so I let it go.

Not bad results, like beave84 said, about $30 an HP sounds right. So you did 137 on the street, I've hit 120 in my truck a few times but as soon as I realize I'm going that fast I always slow down (that's a lot of heavy metal to control/stop). I've hit 160 in my Supra on the street (got to love long straight flat very low traffic roads of Kentucky) and once was enough for me (my brother didn't think it would go over 120. I would be interested to see your results with the TBS side by side with out the TBS on.
