Anybody have bats??? I do, Little Brown Bats roost in my house walls every spring. I sat down at dusk tonite and patiently waited for 52 bats to fly out into the night sky. They come out of a crack between the outside wall and my red brick chimney.

They have been living there every spring and summer now for at least 5 years.

They are females, they will live there and raise the bat babies until the babies are weened, then they just disappear again. Every year I have to save a few babies..they fall out of the roost, and I have to set up a ladder and put them back in the hole.

I have counted as many as 140 bats previous years. They don't get in my house, and so far I haven't had any problems because of them. I have been enjoying many bug-free nights in my back-yard...I don't care IF the bats guano ends up in my kitchen,,LOL, its better than getting eaten alive by mosquiters.

Why would you shoot something that is actually helping you out, and not interupting or interfering your life in any way? I would gladly trade city human crap for natures crap anyday. Having a squirel running through my yard is more pleasureable that having a drug dealer run through with the cops in pursuit. I feel no need to prove my superiority over animals.

Had one in the house last year, put some gates in and bat proofed the house. I don't care if they are around, just don't want them co habitating with me! It bugs me when I turn the light on and see them flying inside :D

We've actually got one living at the peak of our roof, just inside. There's a gap there. Took a flashlight last night and could see his little ears move.

It's been living in there for the longest time, can hear it screeching/chirping most nights upstairs.

Not sure if it's just the one or how many there are, but it's not hurting anything and we could definitely use less mosquitoes!

Depending on where you are at,.. If you are in the midwest it may be the Eastern Red Bat which last I checked was on the Endangered Species list. But they are amazing creatures and a good co-habitant to have

I don't have bats in my house but I am lucky enough to have bats in my neighborhood... until now. In western PA we are having a problem with a fungus that is killing the bats. I am guessing it has gotten to my neighborhood bats because I no longer see them flying at dusk and dawn. The bad thing is that it has been an extremely wet spring here so we need every bug eater we can get!

Just moved from a small in town lot to a nearly acre rural lot with all the wildlife, deer, turkeys, fox etc. Had no luck with my bat box at the old house but I brought it with and will put it up in the coming days. Might be a little late this season but hopefully I get some here eventually.

One brown bat can eat up to 3,000 insects in one night. I say the more the merrier. My wife has a degree in biology and works at a nature center. They do bat hikes quite often during the summer.. very popular. People fear what they don't understand. Less than 2% of bats actually have rabies. Their numbers are being cut down by the white-nose syndrome.. it seems to effect their hibernation period, so they wake up during the winter months and have to go out and forge for bugs and insects that are not there. It reduces their weight and overall health. Not sure all the details, but the fungus can be carried on human clothes and shoes from one cave to another. I know that's why they have closed several caves here in east Tenneesse...trying to prevent it from being spread further.

Wow. That's definitely interesting to know.

3,000 insects a night really sounds beneficial to me haha, wish we had a lot more bats!

some types of humans deserve to die more then bats..people seem to forget that we as humans are animals not superior to animals at all, not too long ago we were lower on the food chain
