Brakes

I own a 2001 GMC Sierra 4.3L V6 with 226,000. I've had the rear brakes replaced but never the front. I performed an inspection of the pads today and once again the fronts look great and rears look great. Most of my driving is highway but 226,000 miles, isn't that a bit much for some brake pads? Also, when I slowly start to release the brakes from a stop it sounds like Choobaka from Star Wars, what is that and how do I fix it? I tried brake cleaner but I think it's a little more then just dirty parts.

Chances are the calipers aren't working properly. How does it stop besides the noise? Pads can glaze over from getting to hot at some point and become hard. But usually when that happens the truck doesn't stop as well. I have seen factory brakes go above 50,000 miles but 226,000 is obviously alot more than normal which would indicate the front calipers not working as well as they should be.

I guess stopping time and distance could be a little better but it's not real bad. I removed the front driver tire, used a C Clamp to depress the pistons, spun the rotor and applied the brakes stopping the rotor. At least the calipers are functioning although I'm not sure how well. Glazed pads is something I didn't think of, if I could only get the damn torx bolt off. Do you think any quick lube garage would break these bolts for me? Thanks for the advise I'll look into that.

Oh and the noise sounds like it's coming from the rear.
