Hi, I'm just looking for opinions on the job, if you like it, dont like it , if you think its a good career or not. Reason for asking is im not sure i want to finish my universty degree, i have no drive or intrest in it anymore, i do love driving, and work in a farm shop on local haul trucks in the summers. I have always had an interest in trucking but parents and teachers and hopes of playing pro hockey kind of got in my way before, So im just asking for opinions on the job from truckers before i make a big decision. Thanks in advance

No matter what your final career choice is I cannot express enough that you should first finish getting your college degree. Maybe get a bachelors in business then start your own place if driving is your passion. A college degree is more important now than ever with the difficult job market.

Good luck in your decision!

Not really. I know a good bit of people around my area that went to college, and still can't get a job anywhere. I think the days of paying to go to college to make it easier to get a job are coming to an end.

Driving a truck is fun but doing it 10-12 hours a day would get real old real quick unless that is truly what you want to do.

Get your college degree join the army as an officer and pick your mos as a transportation officer and then you'll get to do all that stuff plus make good money get a place to live for free and excellent benefits.

no money in trucking, i work at a place that sees thousands of truckers a year and to be honest most of the ones i knew well got out and were replaced by hispanics(not being racist)

i myself am burnt out on college, have had the itch to join the army

I agree. Too many people thought they could take the easy road. Now there are too many in those fields of work. We only need so many management and administrative people, especially being there is very few people to manage and little left to administrate because most jobs are not even here anymore.

To the OP, Never Stop Playing HOCKEY!!!

I wouldn't expect a career right away in anything. Strive for a date in the future (years away) that you will feel comfortable with your decisions. If it's sitting on your butt behind a computer screen, overseas in a war, or behind the wheel of a big rig.....it's your thing, so go for it!

Gents, just having a college degree does not make you an Officer, also if you think that the OCS course of action is going to be easy, it is not. If you want to become a Officer in the US Military you do it one of three ways. 1. US Military Academy 2. Join up as enlisted, work hard hope you get selected to go to OCS, pass OCS and all requirements then become a Officer, and 3. Go to College, join ROTC in College, do well and get selected as an Regular Army Officer then go off to your Officer Basic course... If you want more info actually go to your local ROTC office at your collage. You can also contact me. I have been doing this Army thing for over 16 years, I kinda know some stuff. Good luck! Also as other stated do what you want to do not what others tell you to do, to be happy in life (to a point, you still have to play the game.)

Your right but having a college degree is what is pretty much required to become an officer. You can become an officer without a degree if your mos is like a band leader or chaplain or you could get a direct commission in the battlefield but that is rare. OCS is just like basic you got to prepare and be in shape, but im not sure of the acceptance rate? I've read anywhere from 40-60%. As what everyone else said do what you want to do and make your own decision.

because enlisting in the military is a big leap, a commitment and at this point i haven't decided if i'm ready for that...let alone if i did join i don't want to be an officer i'd rather have a job with a little more thrill

I have alot of "thrill" being a Infantry Officer for over a Decade. Officers get to have a lot of fun too.
