02 Silverado No-start

I have an 02 Z71 with 220k, best truck Ive ever had. It started acting up on me this weekend- first time I go to cycle the ignition, the motor cranks but wont start. Back off the key and turn it again, starts right up with a slight stumble. It does it both when it's been sitting and when its been driven. Once it starts, it goes down the road like theres nothing wrong with it. Its not setting any codes that would bring up a SES light, but it did go on about a week ago. Lasted 2 key cycles and went off. I havent pulled the code, but Im guessing its an intermittent evap code I get every now and then. Im guessing I either have a crank sensor going out and it's re-indexing itself on the second key cycle, but wouldn't it be flashing a code? My other thought was that I might have a fuel pressure leakdown problem with the regulator. The fuel pump was replaced at 185k and the battery is less than a year old. The starter is the original I believe (I bought the truck with 165k) but I imagine that if it were a starter it would just stop working all together.

Im leaning toward the crank sensor, though I dont understand it to be a common issue with these trucks. I remember from writing service on Cadillacs that they would set codes for crank sensors and they would eventually turn themselves off when the sensor finally quit- often while going down the road! I'd like to get out in front of that. Any insight would be great.

I'd check the FPR and also check fuel pressure

The longer I thought about it the more I thought that might be what it is. What psi should it be?

55-62 psi, key on engine off

My 03 rarely starts on the first turn anymore. Always hits on the 2nd.

Thanks for the info. Gonna check my line pressure as soon as I can.

I havent had a chance to put the guage on it, but all indications are that its the regulator. If I cut it off and crank it again within 5 minutes, it'll hit the first try. Anything past five minutes it hits on the second. No SES lights either so Im fairly certain its bleeding down pressure. I picked up the regualtor and it looks like its just a snap ring that holds it in place. I didnt examine it too closely just yet though. Whats the process for R/R'ing one of these?

Bleeding down is the fuel pump. A bad regulator will cause hard starts, because of over rich with to much pressure.
