Rats In The Engine!

So I popped the hood this morning, and I've got rat crap all over the block. Doesn't look to be any damage (I'll inspect the wiring closer after work), but it seems they've made themselves a happy little home. I called my dealer and he suggested farbric softener sheets to scare them off? I just want to kill 'em with rat poison or something, but he reminded me that they're probably burrowed in there deep, and I don't want dead rats in impossible to get to places.

Anyone have any experience/advice with this?

I was at an oil change place recently and talked to a Ford truck owner who had trouble with squirrels. He used Coyote urine (don't know where he got it). The guys doing the oil change weren't impressed.

Check under the fuse box in the engine compartment and also under your air filter.

I had mice eating my firewall insulation and making a nest under my fuse block. They had chewed through some wires on one of the computer modules, if was fixed by a friend at the dealership, who didn't mention the mice to the service dept. Lucked out on that one. I zip-tied a block of decon to a bracket next to the firewall and they had been eating on it within a day. Never had another mouse issue, but I kept a fresh block of decon there just in case.

Dryer sheets work the best. Had the same issue in my boat. Dryer sheets keeps the critters out. Dryer sheets also work well for removing tar and bugs from the front of your truck. MUCH better than any bug remover. They also make a great duster. Try using a used one on the dash. It makes the dash anti static. I clean my laptops with them too. :-)

I zip-tied a block of decon to a bracket next to the firewall and they had been eating on it within a day. Never had another mouse issue, but I kept a fresh block of decon there just in case.

My neighbor used dryer sheets in his El Camino when he put it away last fall. When he took it out this spring he came over and asked me if I had anything that could get rid of the dead rotten mouse smell.

So does urinal pucks. They come in a cherry scent that's not so repulsive as the standard scent. My dad used to put them in the combines, tractors, etc to keep the mice out. Should do the same for rats.
