Spring upgrades?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys.

I'm new around here and realize this is the 4WD suspension section, however I have a 2WD question.   So don't hit me too hard over the haid...  :-)

I'm looking to replace or upgrade the front coil springs in my 2001 Silverado 1500 Xcab.  The stock springs are too soft in my opinion and the driver side is sagging a bit.  I'd really like to put in a spring that would bump spring rate and ultimately ride hieght a little bit, maybe 1 inch.  I also intend to install a set of lift spindles to gain approx 4+" total lift in front.  Right now the truck sits unladen with less than 1 inch of clearance between the bump stop and the lower control arm.  That probably translates to a few inches of travel at the spindle... but still seems too little.  I am also thinking a set of Bilstiens at the same time, or else a set of Doetsch Tech shocks.

The spring rate is wanted to improve overall handling and performance.  I'm used to a fairly firm riding truck from my old solid axle 4x4.  That truck handled like it was on rails too.  This new truck feels like the front end rolls under and pushes like a dump truck.

Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You have somany opptions it's not even funny. Try looking up Rough Country lift's I know for a fact the have what you are looking for. Also Fab-Tec make's lift kit''s for 2wd's There are more company's out there. From what I've seen it's no more costly than a 4x lift...   :thumb:

RCD makes a great 2wd suspension lift and its no more expensive than the 4wd lifts. If I had a 2wd thats the lift kit I would purchase.

I've eyeballed the RCD system and it looks real nice.  Unfortunately I've not been able to find any local place to get the kit.  The Chevy dealer installs them on new trucks, I'd hate to think how much it would cost to install and buy that kit from them...  No. Calif by the way.  4WheelParts has Fabtech and ProComp.  I called Rancho and asked if they planned to do a 2WD lift and they said they had no plans at this time.  Too bad.  I've great luck with their kits in the past.

I was just thinkin about doing a Fabtech spindle lift then add an updated spring while the front end was apart.  Probably better off doing the complete kit and I suppose.  I need new rims before I can do anything so first things first.

thanks for the info.

later!
