6 Lug To 8 Lug Adapters

Ive been looking for some nice aftermarket wheels to put on my truck, and since Im on a tight budget, Ive been spending a lot of time on Craigslist. Ive noticed that there are a lot of really good used 8 lug wheels for a good price, but not that many 6 lug 17s (lots of 16s though).

 

So, I was wondering if there was anyone out there that makes a good quality adapter to be able to put an 8 lug wheel on my 6 lug pickup. I found a dew places that had 2 piece designs, but Im not sure how those would hold up. Anyone on here ever done anything like that?

Just search the web, I did and found some but by the time you add the cost in for them you could have a nicer 6-lug set for less. However if you like the 8-lug looking rims then you might go that route anyway!!!

I do like the 8 lug look, but I like saving money more. And there are a lot of good looking 6 lug wheels out there if I were to buy a new set.

 

Im still leary of the 2 piece design of the adapters so unless someone has personal experience with them, Ill probably hold off on them.

I would never run spacers on my daily driver.

 

 

do not run spacers.... i have run spacers before on my silverado becasue i didnt believe anyone on here, and now i know they are right.

Save your money till you can get a set of 17s you like. Spacers are going to be nothing but a headache.

This. I hate running on/off 24 lugnuts (6 lug) opposed to the 20 (5 lug)I used to have to do. I sure as hell would hate doing 32 lugnuts (8 lug) when it comes time for tire rotation.

Not to seem argumentative, but how is running spacers any different than running a wheel with less backspacing?

 

I know there is a difference in the front and rear, but I ran spacers on the rear of my ZR2 pickup and had no problems.

well first off, i dont have much money to waste, and i wanted rims. i got a good deal on some procomp steelies with the same lug pattern for my truck. well i go to put them on and realize they dont fit. so i buy spacers. slide them on, rims fit great, truck has a badass stance now, and i go for the first drive and i get a HORRIBLE shaking at almost all speeds... got tires balanced mulitple times, and i eventually grinded the caliper down to get the rims to fit without spacers, and the rims fit, but they made my truck handle weird so i put my stock rimsback on and ever since the spacers there has been a very slight vibrating which i cant pin down.

The spacers to change your bolt pattern are 2" so that equals 50.8mm.

Your factory offset is +31

Your new offset is -19.8mm

 

If you bought aftermarket wheels you would buy them from +18 to -12 normally.

The wheel width would be 9-10" wide which makes the tires stick out more. Your factory is 7.5" I think.

 

So all this adds lots of extra stress on the front end that creates lots of bump steer. Not to mention the quality of the cheap aluminum wheel adapters with new studs that could crack and fail while your on the highway. Spacers are not worth it.

It sucks you had bad luck with yours. Maybe you got a bad set??

 

The truck I had before my HD was an 08 Silverado with a 6" lift already installed and the rear tires were about 2" from matching the fronts....it looked like crap....so I bought a pair of 2" steel wheel adaptors for $300 from a local offroad shop and the ride didn't change but the handling improved drastically. I only had them for several months but never had any problems.
