17" Vs 20" Oem Wheels And Fuel Economy

Recommended Posts

This might be a dumb question but. Do truck's with OEM 17's get better fuel mileage than with OEM 20's ? Has anyone switched to 20's and was there a change in mileage? Wondering if the 20's were heavier. This is all OEM tires and all. Also the overall height to top of tire is the same right so speedo will not be off?

Great question.I was wondering this as well.No doubt if tires/rims are heavier it will reduce fuel economy that's for sure.

Hope someone on here can answer this as Im supposed to pick up 20's tonight

It's more about weight than it is size. Also rolling resistance plays a part. If the 20's have a good street tire, and the 17" have an AT or more aggressive tire, they both would probably yield the same mileage. If both have street tires, then it comes down to weight. Usually the bigger the rim, the heavier they are.

Put the 20's on tonight and they are definatly heavier. But love the look. Been wanting to do this upgrade for quite a while.
