Rancho 4" Lift Problem Nnbs

Recommended Posts

Hey all, just installed a Rancho 4" lift kit on my 2009 CC 4x4. Need some help though... Now when I turn the wheel to lock one way or the other the lower control arm is contacting the steering knuckle. This is causing the suspension to actually compress about one inch on the side I am turning towards. This also causes some bad squeek/rub noise when turning hard right or left while driving. Anyone else with a Rancho kit have this issue? Any fix? I had someone take a look at it and he didn't think it would damage anything, but it just sounds and feels bad now... Thanks for any help!

Seems like it's stopping an inch or two too soon though... Definitely much more so than stock. And sounds like crap when turning.

Hmmm I dont know about the "sounds like crap when turning" part but its pretty common for suspension lifts to reduce turning radius significantly.

Les Schwab aligned it. Tracks great down the roadway. Also seems to hit the control arm equally too soon on both sides. The sound it a loud squeak/rub when making a 90 degree right or left turn. Sent rancho a message too, but haven't heard back yet.

I have the same lift, and haven't had any issues. I always try and stay out of tight spots though, because the turning radius is pretty bad. Something doesn't sound right, wish I could be more help. There are a couple guys running this lift, hopefully one of them will chime in with some better info for you. Try and post a pic of where you're hitting.

You probably won't hear back Rancho has horrible customer service. They And pro comp appear to be the only two companies that make a lift to accommodate both the auto ride and auto level on my avalanche. I emailed both to get specifics and pro comp emailed me back then called as a follow up to the email.

So far been 3 weeks and not only has Rancho not replied but when I went to a 4 wheel parts store they called and tried to get the info for me The rep told him that the person that could help him was not available and would have to call him back 2 weeks when he returned from vacation.

So apparently they only have one guy that can answer lift questions.

So looking at it from the front, here's the zoomed out right side showing the lower control arm where it connects to the steering knuckle. Then a close up of the right and the left side showing where the metal has worn down. Last image just shows it prior to wheel lock where the lower control arm steering stop meets the steering knuckle.

look alright to me?

that looks correct. That is the bump stop and the spindle is ment to hit the LCA. I think your alignment is off. I just lifted my front a little more on my tahoe and I get a noise when I turn sharp also . I just need an alignment and it will be gone.

Another thing would be check and see if you are running on you frame or swaybar at full lock. I had this happen on an s10 I had when I put bigger tires on. The tire would rub on the swaybar and rubbing noise and it did feel like it was grinding in the steering wheel.

I know it looks alright in the pics, the issue is that it will turn another two inches past where the photo shows compressing the suspension and grinding while moving. If the alignment can fix this, that'd be awesome! I just couldn't hold the wheel at lock and snap the pic at the same time...

In your first picture it looks like there is rubbing on the frame. Also I noticed how you ABS sensor wire is stretched out to the max but I don't know if that will affect anything.
