2001 Gmc Sierra 2500

Thanks in advance for the help guys. I just got my first 2500, Ive had several half ton trucks and Suvs but never a 3/4ton untill now. I have a 2001 GMC Sierra 4x4 2500 not the HD version with 56kmiles on it with the 6.0 automatic and 4.10 gears front and back and when I apply the brakes quickly the pedal will pulse about 2 or 3 maybe 4 at the very most almost like its bouncing back in a way. This doesnt happen when I step on them normal only when I step on them to stop fast. It does have the tow package and I installed a brake control into the factory hookup but this was happening before I did this. Im lost, almost makes me think its something to do with the ABS but Im getting no codes. The only place this can be felt is in the pedal not the steering wheel not the seat or floor nowhere but the brake pedal.

hows the brake systems look? rotors, pads, calipers and so on?

Rotors and calipers are still the original from the factory, I forgot to mention the truck only has 56k miles on it even though its an 01'. The calipers dont stick or drag, the rotors are not warped or at least nothing is being transfered through the steering wheel or brake pedal that I can feel. The pads look to be fairly new probably changed before I bought the truck. I dont think its an ABS wheel speed sensor issue but I dont know for sure, its not related to speed but more to how fast the pedal is depressed. Its will do that weather Im driving 50 or 5mph.

This sounds like what my 00, 2500 would do. It's kind of a quirk of the hydroboost. I'm not sure if my current 3500 does it, or if I just don't notice it anymore.

Every truck I've driven with hydroboost (4+) does the same thing. When you jump on the brake pedal quickly, it bounces back up at you. Thats just the nature of the beast, nothing wrong with it as far as I know.

My '03 does the same thing. Kind of feels like the ABS kicking in, but it's not nearly that obvious.

Thats good to know, I was sure dreading trying to trouble shoot this brake system. I didnt figure it was the ABS, different feel to that kicking in. Now I can relax a little about it. I guess Ive gotten used to it now because I rarely notice it now.

My 08 GMC 2500HD Dura did the same thing. It is the nature of the rather poor brake system used prior to 2011. When applied quickly, the brakes appear to be doing an ABS shudder.

My 2011 Silverrado 3500HD Dura is a totally different ride. The brake rotors are 14in all around, larger thicker rotors, larger calipers. There is more brake boost, the calipers are preloaded and engage instantly with no brake pedal slop. The suspension and brakes in any 2011 GM HD are the difference between night and day as compared to any pre-2011 HD. For any of you that have not driven a 2011 HD you should treat yourself. Most 2010 and before GM HD owners would not know any better unless they have actually driven a 2011 HD.

I've got 56k on my 06 GMC 2500hd and I noticed the same thing. I thought i was crazy because this is my first 2500 too and my 1500 before this did not do that. I haven't really noticed it since I installed a set of braided stainless steel brake lines all around. What a world of difference.
