Tonneau And Bed Rails

Hey everyone- I figured I would drop a quick message to everyone. Just ordered up a new tonneau cover and bed rails for the truck. I can honestly say that both items were the easiest installs I have ever done and COMPLETELY worth it. I love both items. I went with a Truxedo Lo Pro QT tonneau cover. I can't say enough about the build quality of this. Very amazing. I went with Putco Locker bed rails. These are also VERY nice. The install was pretty easy. I'm very impressed with how the expanding rubber piece works. I didn't expect it to be as tight as it is. I can grab either side and shake the whole truck with out the rails moving. Also, the chrome quality is VERY good. I don't have any pictures yet, but I'll get some in the next few days. Let me know if there are any questions. I would say total install time for both items was right around 30 to 45 minutes.

+1 on the Putco's. I also had the Truxedo on a previous truck. If it's anything like the one I had you've got another winner as well. I'd like to have one on the current truck but haven't done it yet. Let's see some pix.

I also have the Truxedo Lo Pro cover and it is a very nice cover. Did a lot of reading before I went with that one. It will give you good service. I decided not to go with bed rails on mine, but it sounds like you will be happy with yours.

the only problem with the putco locker rails is that the ends are Chrome, where as the rest is stainless, thats why i went with a all stainless bar for my truck:

I have the Truxedo Lo-Pro also. I've had it since 06 and like it. It does allow some water in where my old Truxedo (non lo-pro) didn't. The bed rails on my truck are the GM rails because they were larger than the Putco and are solid color front to rear. My old 2001 Z71 had the putco rails and the stainless discolored while the chrome ends didn't so the look wasn't consistent. Now if I can just get the wrinkles out of the truxedo, I'll be happy.

BTW, this pic was taken Saturday after I had new tires installed. Picture looks almost identical to my sig pic from 3 years ago!!!

I wasn't aware that GM made bedrails like that. I've been wanting something solid color and a little bigger but thought GM only made the ones with the crappy plastic ends. Do you know if they still make the kind like you have and do you by any chance have a part number??

GM part number on the rails is 12499726. I prefer the way the Putco rails install compared to the GM rails, but they are secured and not going anywhere. The GM rails have an extension that drops into the bed rail opening, then a washer and bolt lock the extension to the inside of the bed. The problem is that the bolt and washer will dent the bed when tightening the rails enough so that they don't move. The Putco rails use a compression system that when you tighten the bolt from under the rails, a rubber washer will expand and make the rails tight. No damage to the inside of the bed rail, etc. I'm not worried about the dents and damage because it is inside the bed.

That sure is a nice looking truck! I love it. Sorry I haven't gotten pictures up yet. I've been busy moving to a condo and out of my apartment. Hopefully I can get some soon.

What products do you guys use to clean and condition your tonneau covers? Mine is starting to look a little crappy. I have a 1 year old Truxedo Lo Pro.

Any quality vinyl/leather conditioner. I use Meguiar's products. I've used both gels and liquids and the gels seem to last longer. Don't wait too long to condition it. If you haven't done it yet, start doing it. I do mine every 3-6 months. I think the 3 month thing is better.
