1829 Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 On a 2011 Silverado I noticed that when the info button is pushed while the radio is set for XM radio, it will list the song title and artist. Now I know from several plug-n-play Sirius units that if the artist name and/or song title is too long, the unit will scroll right to left the entire artist name and/or song title. The units in these trucks seem to only list artist or song title out to so many characters then it simply cuts them off. Is there a way to get these factory XM units to scroll right to left the artist name and/or song title? Kinda stinks that you only get a partial artist name and/or song title!
1829 Posted July 6, 2011 Author Posted July 6, 2011 Seriously? No one? Wow.... TTT again and thanks.......
old-chevy-dude Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 it's annoying as hell, it truncates ipod songs/titles as well and I have inquired and been told, no fix there is a specific number of spaces for characters and that's that, if I want it to fit then edit my song titles in itunes to fit the parameters.. I have 123,000 songs in itunes so f-that, I just live with it..
1829 Posted July 6, 2011 Author Posted July 6, 2011 Thank you OCD....there are worse things in life to have to "live with"....LOL!
MikeNH Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 I believe the cutoff is 16 characters which is what it was when I got my very first XM unit about a decade ago. So much for improving things huh? It's a bit annoying but you can usually figure out what the song is still. If it's something I like that I still can't figure out I'll grab it using Shazam on my phone.

I have 123,000 songs in itunes so f-that, I just live with it.. I agree it is ANNOYING! The radio in my 09' Silverado did this as well. What amazes me, is the radio in my 09' Cobalt DOES NOT do this! It will scroll the entire name, plus it will keep the FULL (what you get when you push the 'i' button) information up as you go from channel to channel in XM. The only other obvious difference in the radio in my Cobalt to my 09' Silverado is the Cobalt has the front mount USB jack. My 11' Silverado does not scroll either and it has the center console USB jack. This is a function that could be taken care of with a fairly simple code change in the radio firmware, or heck take the existing firmware from Delco radios that do not do this! Of course one would need the radio firmware loader and a disassembler. Most of the VFD display chipsets I have seen have the scrolling function built in, all you need to do is send the #%^%^& display more text! Granted most of what I see are from Noritake and various other OEM's of VFD's. I bet I know what it is: GM (or the Feds?!?!?) wants us to keep our eyes glued to the road, not reading scrolling text. Otherwise we may have to put down the coffee, cell phone, newspaper, etc just to read the radio display. Pffffaaaa.
