Air Horns

I've looked through the threads that deal with air horns but there honestly aren't that many on here. I'm thinking about putting some on my 2008 GMC 1500. I'd love to get the Grover stutter tone (like they put on fire trucks) but the questions I have should pertain to pretty much any air horns I'm guessing. I've been looking online and I've seen a couple places use a Direct Drive air compressor that doesn't require a tank. How does this set up work and is it as effective? If this isn't the way to go then what all do I need and how do I install them properly? Thanks in advance!

i'd also jump on one that didn't require a tank... but i've yet to find anything.

i'd be happy with a loud electric horn to replace the stock horn but haven't found any leads on that either.

i have 2 24" horns off a western star on my old truck, with a 2 or 2.5 gallon pancake tank in the tool box with a 12V compressor with a pressure switch. works good

That motorcycle horn doesn't need an air tank? Is it high pitched sounding? That looks like something worth atry since it doesn't cost too much.

I really want something loud and deep like the fog horns, but I dont really want to mess with the tank and compressor.

There is a sound clip on the website, but yes it is kind of high pitched, it is loud, 139db @ 10 feet. It doesn't require a tank, the compressor is attached directly to the horns. I needed something compact for my motorcycle, and this fit the bill perfectly.

I was thinking about mounting it behind my grill on the truck, if I get the black one, it should be nearly invisible but project the sound straight ahead.

I ran the Supertones on my Subaru. The OE horn was just sissy- it didn't convey rage very good. They are loud, the sound is very directional though. Inside, they are probably quieter than the OE horns but when someone is in front of you, they do the job well. But they have a very "European" sound (I don't know how else to describe it) that I don't think would fit a truck well.

Do a youtube search, there are dozens of videos people have made of how they sound. That's just my opinion, your results may vary.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I think I've decided not to do it. I wouldn't be happy unless I got a GROVER 1510 stutter tone and they're quite pricey as they are mainly for emergency vehicles. Maybe if enough people piss me off on the road I'll think about it again.

I was thinking of getting some too. I was thinking of putting an air tank in the spot where the extra battery would go if it would fit. It would be good to have an on board compressor to air up tires or blow dirt out of the cab.
