Trailer Light Wiring...

The wires from my harness to the 7 pin trailer light hook up blew on my 01 1500HD. I bought a new 7pin hook up but the wires do not color match. Does anyone know what what color wire does what?

 

Ex red wire=power white=ground etc etc

Don't know if this will help you or not .. because I believe you have the separate yellow turn signals on the '01? I can't remember.

 

But anyway, universal colors are usually:

 

Blue for trailer brake

 

White for ground

 

Brown for running lamps

 

Yellow for left turn

 

Green for right turn

Just a note that GM changed the wiring arrangement on 03?

and up full sizers so its best to use a tester to verify.

 

Heres a note from the site link posted above:

Vehicle manufacturers have intermittently changed wiring colors over the years.

 

It is recommended that a circuit tester be used on the tow vehicle's wiring harness to verify that the correct wire has been located for the proper function.
