i just watched the british top gear special when they took the helux(toyota) vs the dog sled...i just have to ask how the hell did that truck survive? and why did they choose that midsize over the others?

Because in most other parts of the world they don't have the various sizes of pickups we do in the US and because the Hilux has a reputation for being indestructible. The Hilux (and others) may be smaller but they often have pretty high payload ratings for their size. The truck survived because it was heavily modified to be driven in such an environment.

Was that the episode where they put the truck on top of a building, then imploded the building? Truck started up and drove after that. May not be the same one, but the one I remember they tried to kill the Hilux a number of ways. I think it was a diesel as well. Been a while since I saw it, so it may be different. This was the real Top Gear.

That little Hilux is one of the worlds most indestructible vehicles, plus with the mods that Artic Trucks make its the only truck to have in extreme conditions. Anywhere else in the world its toyota, nissan and mistubishi that do all the hard work. If I had to be in a extreme desert/artic/jungle enviroment Id go with one of them as well.

I watched it also. Pretty B.A. Trucks, especially the way they were built. I would love to try Artic Trucks' tires on the mountain this bear season. I bet shipping from Iceland would be pretty steep.

nope, the Arctic Special was WAAAAAY After the Hilux Torture Test. (and they didn't do much to the Powertrain during that test, the ONLY torture the Engine got was when it went into the English Channel! unlike David of Davidsfarm on Youtube, ran over an L27 3800 V6 with a 20 ton Bulldozer TWICE and IT RAN.)
