'95 Suburban Door Rattle

'95 Chevy Suburban K1500 5.7 140k miles

Drivers door had bad door pins/bushings replaced about 7 years ago. Passenger door pins/bushings are still good. When I hit bumps it sounds as if the front doors are going to rattle off the hinges. Searching the Internet I see it was a fairly common problem amongst my year model and for the next few years. What's not fairly common is a solution. Some say replace the door latches and post pins, others say replace the weather stripping, other say do all three, and it also appears some have put some kind of rubber bumper on the bottom of the door or door jamb.

The rest of this vehicle is in really good shape so I'd like to get to the bottom of this problem if I can. Does anyone know of a sure-fire way to fix this?

Don't know of a "sure" way to fix it but ... considering the age of the truck (mine is old too at '99) I would replace the door pin bushings, weatherstrip on body and also the weatherstrip on the inside of door itself. That should renew the crush resistance (push back) against the door when it is latched on the pin.

That's my plan for my '99 soon to be done / fixed.

I just looked at the weatherstripping and it appears pretty flattened. I can probably replace it in both door openings for about $100 so maybe I'll start there. Thanks for the suggestion.

I just replaced the pitman arm and idler arm. The rattle disappeared by about 90%, which leads me to believe it was more of a front end slop issue than a door rattle (although everyone riding in the car would have sworn the doors weren't closed all the way). At any rate, I replaced the weatherstripping and the last 10% of the rattle disappeared. It's all pretty quiet now.
