Aftermarket Speakers W/ Nonbose Stereo Suggestions

Recommended Posts

I have a 2007 (new body style) extended cab with the non-Bose system. Can anyone provide me suggestions on decent speakers to replace the factory ones without replacing the headunit? Thanks

Though your truck is newer than mine, I put 6.5 kickers in mine and they sound good, would probably sound even better with an amp, but thats a future project.

problem with aftermarket door speakers is a lot do not compensate for low frequency range. if you buy the wrong ones, you'll have no bass.

do you plan on getting subs? do you ever plan on getting a different stereo?

in all honesty, when i changed my head unit to an aftermarket nav unit, the factory non-bose speakers sounded 10x better!

This is an excellent question. Even for a guy like me that knows just enough about car audio to get himself in trouble. :sigh::D

I will be adding my JL 10" sub with my JL 250/1 amp and would like to have some better sounding door speakers that will work fine with the factory head unit as well so I am open to suggestions also.

Also, if anybody has suggestions for sub box suppliers I'd like to hear those as well. I've been thinking Subthump.com but have heard a story or two, about their customer service mainly, that makes me cringe.

I used MTX ThunderForm sub with one 10 inch, it sits under the left side of the rear seat (I have ext cab).

To the OP, if you have an ext cab truck you will find the rear speakers sound like they are in mud. I first put new speakers in the rear doors (DB521 Polk Audio Coaxial). They cleaned up the sound immensly. But then the fronts did not sound nice anymore, so I added DB6501 Polk Audio Component to the front. That sounded real nice for what it was. A lot better than stock, but, it is like crack, can't just settle for that. Then came the sub and amp, then another amp and line out converters. I think I am done now. Still have stock head unit, and happy that I do. No one knows what is in there when you keep the stock head unit.

the MTX sub probably isn't that great considering the price. sure it will bump, but your not going to win any audio competitions with it.

check out the JL Audio stealthboxes. those look pretty cool! i would choose JL Audio over MTX any day!

to the OP, Crutchfield is full of information. i asked their tech support the same question you had, and they suggested the Pioneer TS-A1684R because they're very efficient, so that they can be used with your factory radio. Also, these speakers have one of the widest frequency ranges, covering from 33-27,000 Hz. Finding that extra bass response, while retaining the clarity on the higher frequencies, should be no problem with these speakers. you could always contact their tech support with what your wants and needs are, and they will find the right setup tailored for you.

To his helpfull information, Yeah crutchfield does and will help you out, but do not buy from them as I see many of their prices way over priced, The best electronic sight I've ever been and still buy is called SonicElectronix, all their prices are low and almost everything has free shipping, and the free shipping isnt only the expensive ass stuff either,

Doug's right about the crack if you really like good audio.Keep in mind that these head units do start to mute the bass as the volume goes up and it doesnt have to go very high to notice. If you like bass you are going to need a sub at some point to fill in the hole.

agreed, there a retail store with retail prices. the only time i bought something from them was when some speakers i wanted in my old truck went on sale.

Thanks will do. how good are the JL subs that come with the stealthbox? thinking of getting the single sub stealthbox that will go under my front split bench seat. I really dont want to sacrifice too much of the cargo space in the back row

i've never seen anything from JL Audio that wasn't good. i'm no audio expert but i can't think of another brand with better subwoofers. those enclosures contain W3's which are there shallow depth subs. granted it's no W7, but you will get nice crisp, clear bass from it. so you will get some bump, but your still going to be able to hear the music. i don't like all the rumble and vibrations that big subs cause, you just can't here the music well with those.

The JL sub that I am using is a 8 year old JL Audio 10" W0. I have abused, and abused this sub and it still sounds absoultely great, as it did, on day one. I'm good reusing it in the new truck but I just need a box to mount it in that will fit under my ext. cab back seat. I have looked into Subthump.com but again, I have heard horror stories about their customer service so I'm kinda stuck on who else to go to without making one of my own. I did that last time and while it worked out well, I could have easily bought a premade box for what I spent making that one.

I will look into the Pioneer speakers for the remaining locations, thanks. :)

I have the JL Stealthbox in my 09 and it is great. Very clean looking so it is very hard to spot by a would-be thieve. As for sound, very tight and controls. It is a sealed enclosure so it is not boomy (which is what I want) but will still rattle your teeth. If you want to boom then this probably wont be the best choice for you - look for something ported for that.
