Cargo Management Bed Divider Reversed

I like the cargo management system accessory. I have used it since, and is actually the same one that was in my 2009.

One thing I did not like about the bed divider though was the long arm with the locking pin was on the drivers side. This meant that when the divider was ran all the way to the front of the truck it was well over a foot from the front of the bed! Tended to be a waste of space. I usually ran with the divider all the way towards the tailgate. If I needed maximum bed space, I had to take it out and it is a PITA to get that bed divider out.

A few months I was looking and I really could not see any reason why the long arm with the locking pin could not go on the passenger side. So I flipped it. To accomplish this without taking the rails completly out I did the following:

1. Unbolted the bed divider from each sliding arm (2 bolts at each end)

2. Loosened up 2 rail to truck bed mounts (look like expansion plugs) on each side. The ones towards the back of course.

3. Slid each sliding bed divider mount off of the rail and swapped them side to side.

4. Tightened the 2 rail to bed mounts mentioned in step 2

5. Unbolted the bed divider expanded metal 'screen' from the bar that goes from side to side and reversed it. This maybe an optional step but my mounting holes in the bar were different from one side to another so I had to.

6. Bolted the bed divider back onto the sliding brackets.

Tested. Works! I now have @ 4" (mostly air space between the expanded metal and the recessed bed front) when the divider is fully forward on the rails and the corner 'caps' removed. With the corner caps in place, fully forward is about 10" from the bed front. To me a HUGE improvment in usability. With the bed divider fully back and in a LOCKED position, it is about 2" closer to the front, but I can slide it back and using the friction 'locks' only it is in nearly the same spot it used to be when fully towards the back.

The only problem I encountered is when I popped off the black plastic corner pieces. Both of them had the little internal clips snap off. One snapped when I removed it and the second when I touched it after removal. I am going to remount the caps with double sided body tape. I do not know why they are there other than for 'pretty'?

I have attached pictures of the after:

what are the measurements for the side boxes? I have the large sliding box, it's larger than I expected but probably wouldn't be so bad if it went all the way back to the front of the bed, against the wall. Right now as far back as it can go and clip in with the retaining pin, it's about 6'10 inche's away from that wall, that's useable space that is being wasted and it's driving me nuts! I've thought about getting a metal fabricator to build a box the same with, but not as deep and a little more narrow from front to back. I wanted to be able to put a tonneau cover on when taking long trips so I got the one for the rails, but with only 5'8" of bed space, it's kind of annoying me to be losing even those few inches, and I'd like some more room under it.

Nice write up. When I got my 2011 with the sliding bed divider it was installed the same as yours. I also reversed mine so the locking mechanism is on the passenger side. I'm still trying to think up a way to make the divider "quick remove" instead of unbolting it.

Wow, weird. Dont know what happened but the replies never showed whenever I checked until I just looked in this forum. Ive been in here several times in the last year. I was not ignoring your questions, I honestly did not see em' until now.

I was thinking some work in the mill, a dremel, or a router would enable the divider to be removed. Here is my thinking. In the ends of the rails where the tapers are now,if the tapered part was increased further towards the front of the truck then you could remove one side. Then lift the divider a bit and slide the other further out. I may only have to do one side. I am going to be tied up for the next few months but I may tackle this in the spring.

I will get the measurements on the side boxes ASAP!

oh, you mean you just cant slide the divider out of the cargo system to remove it? i have the system now in the truck and was thinking of getting the divider, but i would like to get it out of there in case i put something big in the bed or dont need it in there. huh.
