Loaning Your Truck

How many of you guys loan your truck out? I let my girlfriends brother borrow it to move and people are in awe that I'd do it. It's not a show car, it's a bloody truck but then again it is my true love (not the girlfriend hahaha)

NEVER loan my truck to anybody, family or not. I am the one who paid for it, and I pay the insurance for it. If you loan your truck out and they crash it, is the person you loan it to going to buy you a new one and pay your increased insurance rate in the future?.....Just something to think about before giving somebody your truck to use.

My truck is a tool just like any other in my toolbox. Sure I loan it out to close friends. I have to laugh at those that put the Bras, door protectors, and wind deflectors, etc. Makes the truck look ugly while you own it, and probably causes as much damage in abrasion/discoloring as not using them.

Now my 1977 Porsche 911S is another story entirely <grin>.

Yeah I loan my truck out. All my friends basically come take it if im noit using it. Its not like the are going to hurt it. If something breaks on it, it would have broken no matter who is using it. Its only a truck after all

Nope. I'll be happy to help someone move something for the right price but no way in hell are they driving it.

Completely depends on who is asking. My truck is my daily driver and only means of transportation for me and my kids. I cant afford it to be down in time or money due to negligence....Accidents can happen to anyone, some are just more prone to them than others.

nope. i'd either offer to help them move or offer to give them the $40 to rent a u-haul, if they couldn't come up with the money themselves. i've found that most people (even good friends) just don't respect other people's property.

I typically don't like people driving my vehicles, but I did loan my Yukon to my Dad when it was a week old. I cried the whole time it was gone, but I know my Dad wouldn't intentionally hurt it.

Dad can use it if necessary, after all I drove his vehicle for years when I wasn't allowed to have my own...

Yes I grew up in a time before kids all had to have their own vehicle. Actually had to work for what I have.

Thanks mom and dad for teaching me to be responsible! And also to appreciate and take care of what I have.

    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
    • Atlas, you kill me As aggravating as a project like this can be you have been unable to hide your fascination with learning and using that angst against this beast like a Ninjitsu Master. It amuses you, admit it now.      BTW, love your writing style. 😉
