Interior Blower (fan) Issues/questions

Recommended Posts

Just recently noticed that the interior blower was no longer functioning - hot in the cab...

Checked all the fuses but all were good.

Removed the blower (fan) and it seems the control module (resistor) mounted on the blower is shot. Giving it a good rap will sometimes make it go, but the speed can't be adjusted. So, I'll likely need to replace this - no worries.

But...

While I had the blower out and was testing it, I ended up with a few broken veins/blades on the impeller (don't ask) . I've tried removing the ones on the opposite side to try and balance it, but no go, so I'll have to replace this too. Only problem - GM does not sell the impeller separately, only with the blower - for $300 +

So does anyone know of an on-line source for these parts. I'm thinking of hitting a few local bone yards, but would like to go new if I can, but for that much $$$$.?!?!?!

Thanks in advance.

ACDELCO Part # 1580573 $68.99 Cage only @ http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php

Check the part # and make sure it fits your truck, I am not responsible if it does not. I only did a quick searh.

So just stopped at a local bone yard and found the parts I needed (fan, cage and resistor) for $100. Swapped them out on the parking lot and all is good again. And with the 35 C (100 F) temps out here today, not a moment to soon.

Interesting thing was, out of the 40 or so trucks I checked, only 2 had the style of resistor I needed. The rest were all different. The one I found happened to be from a 2007 model (SLE). Maybe my 2006 SLE was built late in the year - - who knows, just glad I found one.

Thanks,

I almost hate to tell you this but there is a recall on that blower resistor. You needed only to take it to te dealer and they would have replaced it for free.

BTW........ you may well have the same issue with the one from the bone-yard. The problem isn't the resistor. The problem is the wiring to the resistor, which is part of the recall. I guess that it can get hot enough to start a fire..

Very interesting - where were you 2 days ago...:lol::D

Thanks for the heads up. I'll maybe look into this with one of our local dealers.
