DETROIT, Dec. 28 —  Despite some misgivings over its exterior appearance — specifically, its plastic side cladding — the editors of Motor Trend Magazine have chosen the Chevrolet Avalanche as its “Truck of the Year.”

But you have to admit that it is one of the best enginered "new design" vehicles that GM has come out with.  The problems people are having are very insignificant considering how different this vehicle is from anything else on the market.

Gimmie a break, engineering?  No one will ever use that covertacab system.  I've only seen 3 men driving AV's the rest have been women(LOTS of them).  Granted I'd take one but I'd sell it and get a vette!

I use it a lot more than I expected - a few of my friends who thought it was funny, like you, have since asked me to haul things they coudn't fit in their shorty's.

 

I'll switch for $10, but wont wear a dress - wish I knew where you are finding all of these women driving AV's - not in this town.

I remember reading an article by a former MT writer or editor that the car/truck of the year award is merely an advertising ploy - namely the auto company that comes up with the best advertising budget in their magazine(s) capitalizing on the award gets it.  Maybe it was sour grapes.  Maybe not.

around here i see lotsa women driving 95-98 silverados and 97-02 f-150s...not as many as men, but still a lot.

Indeed.  But big ups to GM for breaking new ground and creating something others will likely steal -
